Does shaving actually make your body hair grow faster?

Post by AlexBoy » Mon Oct 27, 2008 7:21 am

Please guys, help me out with that one.
I have a really hairy chest and legs which personally I find disgusting so I shaved them. I know some guys who shave their pubes, but I didn't go that far. Waxing hurts too damn much and I don't have money for any first-class laser treatments. I have to do it every week to look nice.
I heard some people say "don't shave! it will only grow thicker!" And things like that. But I also read articles that say it's all just a myth, and it only grows back the same legs. Some feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks everyone

No. Shaving hair doesn't change its thickness or color. The color, location, thickness and length of hair on your body mainly depend on genetics and hormones. After you shave body hair, it may feel coarse or "stubbly" for a time as it grows out. During this phase, it may be more noticeable — and may appear darker or thicker. But it's not.

I would agree with Scott1636 - it doesn't really grow in faster or thicker, but it may seem that way. You should search through some of the older posts here as a number of the swimmers have suggested using a product called "Magic Shave" and I must say that it works very well for me ... I wont go into all the details because you can find them in the older posts, but just try it in a small patch first to check for skin sensitivity and then go for it ... :)

Another readily available hair remover/dipilatory cream is "NAIR for men". In my area it is available at all drug stores and some grocery stores and discount stores. Like Scotty warned, try in on a small area to be sure it doesn't burn or irritate, read the warnings on the label, and follow the directions exactly.

I tried NAIR once, and it burned my skin. It didn't just leave it red, I actually had small callouses on my hands from applying to much of it. Thankfully I only used it on a small area. I definitely won't ever use NAIR again, and other hair removal creams smell like dead fish.
Anyways thank you everyone for your replies. When I gather enough courage I will probably hit the beauty salon for waxing, but until then I'll stick with my razor..
