Life's Short

Post by SpeedoDad78 » Fri Jul 17, 2020 1:28 am

With everything locked down, we haven't been able to do much socializing. Everyone is trying to keep in touch, but it's hard when you can't simply get together. A small group of friends has been doing occasional Zoom happy hours. During one of our calls, someone suggested a weekly photo challenge to help combat the cabin fever. We were all game.

It's a one week rotation. When your week comes up, you take a photo (or a few) based on the phrase "Life's short...." and send it to the group. Everyone else has that week to accept the challenge and post their own photo. Some pick silly ideas for photos. Others suggest activities. When our turn came around, we picked a swimsuit theme.

"Life's short, wear a bikini." We sent out a few photos of our family relaxing outside in bikinis, speedos, and thongs.

This particular group tends to be more conservative when it comes to attire. We've known the three other families for a long time, and I've rarely seen the other moms in anything less than a tankini and the guys all wear shorts.

The week passed by without anyone accepting the challenge. Finally, on the last day, there was one response. "Rockin' our bikini bods." was all it said. In the accompanying picture, the parents and their daughters were posing on their deck. The women were in bikinis and the dad was wearing a solid navy speedo.

The response from the other two families in the group was great. Everyone was very body positive and gave them a virtual thumbs up. Less than an hour later, we got another reply. "Worked up the courage to see if the swimsuits we bought for our Europe trip still fit." They'd laid some suitcases out on the bed like they were packing. The mom was in a bikini. The dad and their two sons were in speedos.

We went on to the next challenge without a response from the final family. About half way through the week, there was another response to ours. "Realize we're late, but we wanted to join the fun." They'd taken a photo while relaxing by a lake while hiking. The mom and daughter were in cheeky bikinis. The dad and son were in speedos.

It was our turn again this week, and we'd been discussing some ideas. My daughter suggested one that seemed fun, but we weren't sure if it would go over well. Sticking to the theme, we decided "life's short" and went for it.

"Life's short, celebrate National Nude Day on July 14." We had a lot of fun taking the photos. There was one of us in the hot tub with swimsuits scattered around the deck. Another was of us in the kitchen with various items and open cabinets arranged to conceal ourselves. Suggestive, but not revealing everything.

The last photo was of swimsuits scattered in the grass. We took it at just the right time of day, so our shadows overlaid them.

We put one final photo behind a link at the end. We figured if people had made it that far and clicked through, they knew what to expect. The photo was taken from the same position as the previous, but panned up to us in our nude glory. After one last check to make sure the kids were okay with it, we sent it out to our friends. Then we waited.

To be continued...

What a great idea SpeedoDad78, can only imagine that you finished up with some very interesting photos and perhaps engaging comments from your friends.

I've noticed that a lot of guys are interested in wearing speedos, but avoid saying so because they're taboo in our society. It's a bit like masturbation. We all enjoy it, but avoid talking about it.

Instead, they'll wear speedos as a joke (see everyone that donned one of the many US themed swim briefs released for July 4th) or with mock protest when "required" (I've lost count of the number of people I've met who bought a swim brief for a trip based on the premise that you have to wear them in certain situations, even though that's rarely true.).

In their minds, none of our friends chose to wear a speedo. It was required by the challenge. Because they're weren't responsible for the decision, it became acceptable to wear a speedo for the photo.

If the response to our second challenge is any indicator, I think many of them will be wearing speedos more often in the future.

I found this to be true just recently. The weekend after the 4th of July I mentioned that I’d considered wearing a speedo for the 4th of July my friend said he would’ve worn one if I had.
He had actually bought one to wear but had lost it somehow. I offered him one of mine to wear when we went swimming. Jumping into the river off an old railroad trestle.
We joked around that some of our other friends were jealous and they admitted they were. Now in the space of a few weeks about 5 out of 10 of our friends group are wearing speedos. Their first comments when they try them is “Oh my gosh they’re so comfy!”

All it took was me admitting that I like wearing them and everyone else was able to say that they’re interested in wearing them as well.

Given the nature of the challenge, we changed up the procedure a bit. The day before National Nude Day, we sent out an email to the group.
Are you looking forward to National Nude Day?

We realize the idea of getting naked with your families, not to mention documenting it in photos, may be overwhelming. Until recently, it would have been unthinkable for us too.

A few tips...

Start Naked
There are few things more awkward than disrobing in front of someone. It will be much harder if you start clothed and undress. Try sleeping naked, so tomorrow you're already ready to go. If you need to ease into it a bit more, wear minimal covering, like a robe or sarong, so it's easy to remove.

Embrace the Awkwardness
There's no way around it. It's going to be weird at first. You won't know what to say or where to look. Bodies may react in ways that might seem embarrassing. Don't try to deny it. The more you're open about how you're feeling, the sooner you can relax and enjoy the experience.

Wear Plenty of Sunscreen
If you go outside, don't forget the sunscreen!

Have Fun
Most importantly, don't forget to have fun. Take time to enjoy the experience. It'll be over before you know it.
We ended by saying that pictures weren't important. Although they were the crux of the whole challenge idea, we'd rather people give it a try than worry about sharing photos.

The next day, we got a long thank you note from one of the families. They said that after the initial awkwardness wore off, they'd had an amazing day. The others replied soon after.

All of those "tips" are spot on. I will agree the photo may have been the crux of it all, but the fact that other's tired the challenge and actually found the positive side of everything is awesome. trying new things in relation to what swimwear i wear when lap swimming and at the beach, and finally going from just a home nudist to a social nudist and visiting a few resorts, really has made things so much more enjoyable and less stressful.
