Nice one SpeedoJon!
I think we need to see some photos in your new Aussiebum bikini. Preferably wet!

Dude, I'm 53 and you are inspiring me. Love that you're still rocking the skimpier suits, too!SpeedoJon wrote:I swim one mile - 16 laps in a 50 meter pool at Wilson Aquatic in Washington, DC 5 times a week. I wear 1 inch Speedo solars, although I have a new AussieBum bkini, white and black stripes, that I wear as of this week. Love swimming my laps. I had to take a month off and it took a while to return to my speed of 35 minutes per mile. I am 55.
Not sure your math is adding up, though, but either way you rock!
Underwater and Speedo loving straight guy

If Jon is using a lap as two lengths, then 16 laps would be 1600 meters which is a mile. In 35 minutes at 55 years old. Great job!diveguy wrote:Dude, I'm 53 and you are inspiring me. Wow, that is great time, Jon! I just downloaded data from my swim watch and recently, I'm averaging about 10-15 min slower and 8 yrs younger. Ha... I may need to pick up the pace a little... Great job...

Re: Did you swim today?
That's the same as I'm doing -- about 45-50 minutes per mile. It's difficult to imagine how I could speed up that much.
Re: Did you swim today?
made it to the pool after 4 weeks! a relaxing afternoon visit to Oasis, London, 1.2 km in 30 min 9 with a few minutes of rest. Exhausted now! Need to be a bit more regular. It was great to see fellow swimmers sporting their speedos, (and only a few with shorts/jammers).

Re: Did you swim today?
I feel like the snail in here. It took me a couple months to build up the stamina to swim just 2000 m. My only problem is I only know how to do front crawl and I can't turn properly. But it takes me an hour to do that but I haven't been in the pool in weeks

Re: Did you swim today?
I swim a 1200 meters m-f and then 2000 on Sunday's. Take Saturday's. Off.
Re: Did you swim today?
Of course I swam today. But what's newsworthy is that of the six lanes occupied by two gals and four guys, four were wearing briefs. That's right, one hundred percent compliance with proper swim attire code. I think that's a first. I'm not always the only one swimming laps in a speedo on Sunday morning, but this is unheard of.
Re: Did you swim today?
I've thought to give this old thread a bump and a re-start after more than 2 years instead of starting a new one.
Besides tanning and feel-good in our speedos they are the best fitting to swim in for sport reasons.
Today I've started my swim-season for this year at an indoor-pool with a lot of laps.
I started with
500 m (20 × 25 m), then
1000 m (40 × 25 m) in about 25 minutes, later again
300 m (12 x 25 m) in about 9 minutes.
(I couldn't take the time correctly)
How are you preparing for summer?

Re: Did you swim today?
Lately my workout has been 10 x 100 free on 3:00 sendoff. Taking a second off the time every week. Holding 1:14s this week.
Wears me out. I use a TomTom unit to monitor my heart rate, a very handy tool for determining how hard I'm pushing it. I can get it up to 155, which is plenty. It comes down to 95 before the next sendoff, which is great.

Re: Did you swim today?
So Yesterday morning:
4 x 200m (100 crawl, 100 anything inspires you at the moment)
400 (increase speed every 50 up to max the last 50)
200 easy
4 x 50m (max)
100 easy
2 x 100 (max)
100 easy
200 (max)
100 easy
400 (max)
100 easy
Off course, the max speed during a 400 is less fast than in a 50 or 100, if you want to keep the pace . Oh and I was wearing a black endurance + speedo, similar to the one on my avatar.

Re: Did you swim today?
Swim half mile to a mile every day. More than a mile and a half on weekends.
Re: Did you swim today?
Tonight we tried 6 x 200 on 5:00 sendoffs. I held at 2:50-3:01, just barely out of the ten second difference max that Coach asked for. I wanted more rest time between swims. Coach said no. This is hard on us old people! Heart rate got to 146 so it is a little easier than the ten 100's I've been doing.
Re: Did you swim today?
First time in the pool today in several years (why has it been so long?). Frog kick is a recommended part of my rehab after hip surgery a month ago. My leg is definitely weak (and hurt a bit) compared to what I remember the last time I was swimming. My shoulders are also telling me this afternoon that they go worked in different ways, too. I swam 30 25-yard lengths, in sets of two with a brief rest between. I felt so slow, but had to start somewhere. I was the only guy in a swim brief (Sporti Euro in black).
Re: Did you swim today?
When I swim I swim either a quarter, half or full mile depending on how much time I have. I just swim freestyle without any break periods and I pace myself to not get out of breath.
