Hi, and please help me choose

Post by briefs55 » Mon Dec 31, 2012 10:44 am

Hi guys,
I have been lurking occasionally, appreciating the supportive tone of this group.
I don't have friends that share my preference for speedos (and my wife more tolerates than celebrates my interest). I wish I had people to give me honest feedback.
Can I ask your opinion?

Which of these looks better on my 55-year old body? Should I really be wearing skimpy at all, or do I need to stick with the square-cut style?

Also, if I am hoping to start swimming again after 25 years, at at a family-oriented suburban California gym with outdoor pool -- do I also need to be sensitive to some reasonable boundary about which would be appropriate there (usually it's all jammers on the guys)?

Thanks!

Welcome to the board. You look good in all 3 but if I had to choose, I would pick B. That is just my choice. They aren't too small and they fit you nicely. Wear whatever you choose and feel comfortable in them. You have a good body for a 55yo. Keep swimming and it will get even better.

I'll echo that. I think "B" looks best.

All three look great on you, you shouldn't feel uncomfortable wearing any of them to the pool or beach. Welcome to the boards and let us know how your swimming gets on when you get back in the pool!

Yes, 'B'. I find square-cut legs constrict movement and too high a waist creates some water resistance.

+1 for the vote for "B". I think generally that square cut suits look better on beefier guys with muscular thighs than they do on more slender guys such as yourself but props to you at 55 years old for still having a speedo-ready bod, dude! you have 4 or 5 years on me but your stomach is in way better shape than mine is right now. My opinion is that if you are able to rock a suit like "A" then for sure you can do "B" and when talking speedos I almost always think smaller is better!

Welcome, briefs55. In the end, it's your call, all 3 look good on you, but I lean toward B. You appear very trim in your photo, looking good for any age. (BTW I am 54).

I have to agree that I prefer how B looks, but I think you should wear C your first time out and you aren't sure of reactions of friends. The idea of "putting it out there" still gets across, but less flesh for the ones that may be less approving or predisposed to making rude comments about a speedo. If it is out of town and your immediate family only, go for B (unless family includes brothers - they love to razz over the subject of speedos) If you can, get to a tanning parlor before you leave. Having an appropriate tan for the suit makes it look like you've been wearing it for quite some time. Good luck -- have fun

Thanks guys for all your feedback. So I am swimming in "B" but have not been going very often yet this winter. It feels good. I just hope as the one brief-wearer among all the jammers I will someday not be the absolute slowest person in the pool too!
