My mum HATES me to wear the "tight little pants" WTFH?!?!

Yes, I am still unfortunate to live with my parents, even though I am 20 years old before anybody here asks.

Anyway, last Friday I was about to go to a local sauna so that I could use the whirpool tub there, and I decided to take with me my briefs you can see in my profile picture, instead of my shorts, and my mum told me that I'm not leaving the house unless I take my shorts with me instead, as my "tight little pants" aren't appropriate for wearing in public! WTFH?!?!?! I've already worn them twice in public without problems and the place I was going to that had the whirlpool tub is fine with speedos wearers!

I asked her if I brought myself a new and slightly bigger pair, (the ones I have got at the moment are admittedly on the small side a bit now), would she let me wear them in public pools but she said that they are inappropriate full stop!

Why does my mum have this sort of attitude?

Like many parents, I think that she just has a very conservative view of what she considers "decent." Unfortunately it is still relatively uncommon for many guys to wear swimming briefs, so she probably figures it will draw unwanted attention (much like she is giving you).

If you are in a position to simply ignore what she says and wear what you want, that would be the best option. Otherwise, I would bring the shorts like she wants, but then actually wear the briefs at the sauna like you planned. However it sounds like if you go somewhere with her, you'll have to wear shorts or deal with an earful of complaints.

I guess it simply depends on the type of parents you have. There is nothing wrong with living at home with your parents at your age. Smarten up about that. As for yor mom's attitude, take the shorts with you like she asks but wear speedos. She doesn't have to know if you take them with you or not. You could also reply, "Mom, I appreciate your valid concern, but I have worne them before and there hasn't been an issue made about it. Moreover, it is not a violation of the dresscode. However, I will take the shorts with me as a back up." You're being respectful as a son but you are making a decision as a mature adult.

Get a job and move out. You are old enough to be on your own wearing what you want.
If you've got balls, you can always tell her that you don't particularly like all her choices in clothes but are polite enough not to criticize her choices, you would appreciate the same courtesy.

If we ever go on a holiday where there is a waterpark, and my family want me to join them at this waterpark, I'll tell them to get stuffed, you won't let me wear what I feel is comfortable.
