Re: ...what changed?
I remember taking a Masters swim class about 10 years ago. I wore a blue speedo suit during the 8 weeks of the class and only saw one other member wearing one, maybe 2 tops. I was kinda in shock that there weren't more guys wearing them. I mean if you're taking a Masters swim class, it's kinda dumb not to wear one or at very least a jammer.
Just a straight guy that enjoys wearing speedos. Life is too short, enjoy wearing what you want.

Re: ...what changed?
I started a new job in Germany for which I had to bike 9km every day to get to the office. The ride was amazing as I had to ride though fields of sunflowers and corn. The company was very Eco-Friendly and so they had a lot of changing rooms, lockers and showers for those who biked to work. Im sure that about 30% of the company used the facilities, since I always saw hundreds of bikes parked outside of the main builiding. My morning routine involved biking my 9km, going to the locker rooms, shower and get dressed for work. Being Germany, all showers were communal and there were no stalls or separator. So I got used to seeing most of my co-workers naked.
After some months, my colleagues and I wanted to do some kind of sport together and we thought that swimming might be a good idea. I always had a fascination for speedos but never had the courage to wear one in front of friends or family. The difference this time, was that I was already so used to showering together with my colleagues and seeing them naked every day, that I thought it made no difference what kind of swim suit I wore.
The first time we went swimming though, I wasn't brave enough and took a pair of swim shorts that go above the knee. At the pool's changing room, my colleagues changed into jammers, I changed into my shorts and they immediately gave me a look and said: "Are you really going to swim in those?"
Needless to say, I saw this as an opportunity to go to the sports shop and get some speedos. The next time we went swimming, I took them with me, slipped into them and never looked back.
