Shiney or Matt Speedos?

Shiny for me too. I'm not a fan of those Speedo 'Endurance' briefs, which are like wearing a potato sack. They might last longer in chlorine, but they don't give you any shape down below.

I quite like wearing Aussiebums to the beach and pool. The surf club at my local beach also has a lot of guys in ABs and it's quite a feast for the eyes, let me tell you! Nothing like a tall, tanned, well-defined lifeguard to get the heart rate up.

These days in Sydney, ABs seem to be increasingly common in general public.

Is it true that in the US, most guys would normally choose to wear a pair of board shorts and not a pair of speedos when they go swimming or to the beach? This is my observation based on what I see in the movies and TV shows. It seems like it is not very mainstream to wear a pair of speedos there?

I like both but I would choose shiny if given an ultimatum. It depends on the specific suit. I do like shiny Aussiebums; I have 3 pairs. :D

In the mid-atlantic area of the east coast of the US it is rare to see a speedo. Board shorts are about it. That may be because the east coast is over all more conservative and part of the "Bible Belt" God only know what a speedo could lead to. :D

well here in South Africa there are only a few beaches where speedos are common and accepted (and these are the "gay" beaches)... other than that guys mostly wear board shorts or baggies....

It has to be shiny for me. I'm like a magpie, always on the hunt for the next shiny pair. Got these from Japan and modeled by a friend. They look nice dry, but they are like liquid silk when wet. What do you think?

I'll speak for the California coast and confirm the speedos are rarely seen on beaches here, excepting the "gay" beaches.
