Speedo capital of the world

Post by speedo dude » Fri Oct 23, 2009 9:03 pm

Hey guys

there was some discussion about a speedo get to together in sydney.

I think seeing as the weather is warming up and Dave has hit town we should definitely revive this idea.

We could start really simply-just plan on heading to a beach and strutting around in speedos. There's really loads we could do but it depends on interest and what people are comfortable doing.

Anyway let me know if ur interested in this idea, because i think Sydney probably is the Speedo capital of the world and we need to salute that!!!

Your idea is great. Unfortunately for me, this recession has hit me very hard. I would personally have loved to first go to Sydney (it's been 6 years since I was there) and than head to brazil afterwards. However, i don't see myself escaping the cold Canadian winter this year.

I'm going to be in Australia for a business trip next month and will be stopping in Sydney a couple times while there. I would love to wear my aussiebums at an Australian beach. Am I being too optimistic that it will be beach weather the last week of November? I don't suppose there is an aussiebum factory tour led by aussiebum models.

Any recommendations on beaches I should try to hit? (Sorry, not trying to hijack the thread)

I went to manly beach and had a great time. I just don't recall seeing guys in speedos for some strange reason.

it should definitely be beach weather at the end of November. People are already swimming now. Manly beach is one of the best cause you can catch a ferry over the harbour to get there if u like. Bondi is more famous but i think it can be a bit touristy. It all depends on timing but I have seen many hot speedo clad guys at Manly.

Let me know when you are coming an maybe we can meet

Thanks. Sounds like Manly Beach is the place to go. I may also try to have lunch at Boy Charlton Pool. I hear the views of the swimmers from the cafe are quite nice.

I'll be in Sydney Nov. 25 and 26th, speedo dude.

Sorry madtown have been really busy and haven't the time to meet up, however I'm thinking of starting a speedo summer club. Basically every afternoon rocking up at a certain beach at the same time and tanning in speedos, or even just wearing them under my boardies and seeing if other blokes are up for coming out in speedos. Doesn't have to be a hook up thing, just a mutual appreciation society. haha. sounds lame i know but let me know if ur interested and free and around sydney this summer

I went to Manly Beach today. The beach was nice enough but the eye candy was a bit of a disappointment. I saw only 5 speedos there. Two of which were worn by men over 50 (possibly 60). There were only two pairs of square cuts I saw. Otherwise it was all dork shorts. Lots and lots of board shorts. On top of their being almost no speedos, most of the guys there were high school age or younger.

Tomorrow I am off to North Bondi Beach. I'm hoping there will be something worth taking a picture of there.

Here are few pictures from my excursions to Sydney's beaches. Everyone I spoke to had a different opinion on which beach was best. I do not go to lots of beaches, so I may not be the best judge, but to me, Manly and Bondi were interchangeable. The only exception was that later in the day at Bondi a few guys showed up in skimpier swimwear. But still I saw more bare breasts at Bondi than speedos.

Here is Manly Beach:

Here is Bondi Beach:

It got busier around 2pm. I was there on a weekday which may explain the lack of people.

This is about the only evidence I have that aussiebum exists in Australia

When I arrived in Australia, the customs people, a man and a woman, were joking with me. They asked me if I expected Australians to look as good as them. I replied that I expected all the men to be wearing aussiebums. They both seemed clueless as to what aussiebums are. The woman finally asked me if that was the name of "that gay underwear company". I told her they make swimwear too.

Hi there

Bad luck on the sightings. Usually around Manly surf club you can be guaranteed of a lot of speedo action - especially on weekends. North Bondi is also good, as is Tamarama (next beach south of Bondi).

We promise to give you a proper show next time you're here.

Next time (and hopefully there will be a next time) I will make sure to be in Sydney over a weekend. I want to get my hands on a pair of those Manly speedos. I was in Sydney on a Saturday night, and I have to say that Oxford Street was filled with hot guys. I'm kicking myself for being too chicken to go into any of the clubs.

Thanks for the compliment, Bospeedodude.

Does anyone go to Boy Charlton pool, which I believe is near the Botanical Gardens? I heard that was a good place to have lunch and watch the speedo-clad lads swim.

Ack. It sounds like Australia is turning into Florida {:-(

Maybe Japan or Thailand is the Speedo Capital of the world now.

*sigh* I probably won't be in Sydney again for a few years. I don't think work will send me back there again any time soon.

Its been bugging me. It seemed like most of the guys there were surfers or wanna-be surfers. I don't think speedos are appropriate surfing attire. Also I was at Manly on a Wednesday and Bondi on a Thursday. Things may have been different on a weekend.

Stupid question: are there nice beaches in Japan? Or do the Japanese go other places to wear their speedos? Hawaii is a popular destination for the Japanese. Are there a lot of speedos there?

A lot of the pics of guys in Japan in Speedos are at pools. They must have a lot of them (both pools and speedos). Japan is surrounded by the ocean so they must have some beaches. I just don't know how good they are. Never been to Hawaii but there are a lot of surfers there so it's probably all board shorts.

I'm guessing that since US culture associates speedos with gay guys and since people still look to US culture sort of, probaby guys arent wearing speedos much anywhere anymore. People are buying them for sure but must be wearing them in private. I have a friend who was born in Lebanon who only wears board shorts and wouldn't go near a pair of speedos. But his father wears them swimming all the time. I read a little French and saw an article about speedos in a newspaper here in Florida written for French Canadian tourists. It said how young guys won't wear them but older guys do.

I think surfers wear board shorts since its more comfortable when you sit straddled on the board. The waxed deck can be kind of rough. Thats why surfers wear rash guards to protect their chests.
