Cool. Now I HAVE to wear speedos to a water park not just for regular reasons (comfortable yet sexy  ) but also to experience the water slide from a completely new perspective. If it as awesome as you say it is, then I should have done this long ago.

It looks like a British park has now banned speedos!
'Revealing' Speedos banned from UK water park

THEY'VE long divided public opinion, and now Speedos and other tight swimming briefs have been banned from one of the UK's biggest water parks.
Major tourist attraction Alton Towers says the minute male swimwear is inappropriate for a family venue.

Dubbed the "battle of the bulge", the park wants visitors to wear less revealing board shorts instead.

"A number of men visiting the waterpark were wearing tight swimming attire more suited to Spain than Staffordshire," a spokeswoman said.

"To prevent embarrassment amongst fellow members of the public and to maintain the family friendly atmosphere at the Resort, bosses have taken the extreme measure of banning these tight trunks.

"While women may hail the return of the skimpy bathers, the style itself is not deemed public or family friendly."

Speedos are one of Australia's most memorable contributions to fashion, with origins dating back to a Bondi Beach company formed by Scottish immigrant Alexander MacRae in 1914.

The brand became so popular that it is now often used generically to describe swimming briefs.

But the swimwear is also regularly the butt of jokes, ridiculed with names including "budgie smugglers".

Alton Towers, at Staffordshire in England's West Midlands, attracted more than 3 million visitors last year and is one of the most popular water parks in Europe.

Sales and marketing director Morwenna Angove said there had been a surge in numbers of men wearing tight swimwear.

"We feel this small brief style is not appropriate for a family venue so we are advising male bathers to wear more protective swimwear such as shorts."

Whooo! So, Speedo was founded by a Scotsman? Our yet another contribution to the world.

Who would want to go to Alton Towers or any other family themed water parks? It's full of screaming and snot-dripping brats. I would prefer an over-18s water park (preferably where Speedo briefs are only allowed and baggy shorts banned)

It's good that Alton Towers has kicked up a fuss about this as it shows more men are wearing Speedos - does this mean they are now cool to wear? I hope so. I've yet still to see young men wearing any Speedo briefs at my local swimming pools.

Surprising that they would reject a growing fashon especially from the marketting manager who would want to have anybody as a customer. Its that type of thing that makes speedos so novel and daring, where in other countries they are only what they are. The irony is that they probably love the girls that wear their lycra and think nothing of it because it is normal.

Re: Speedos banned from UK Theme Park.

I wonder how this ban would hold up under the UK Equality laws or the European Human Rights Act? I'm sure male swimmers will complain about the ban, branding it unfair since female swimmers is able to wear tight-fitting costumes, but men are not allowed to wear Speedo briefs.

On the other hand, the cynical in me might suggest that Alton Towers are trying to seek free publicity and raise its public profile by banning men's tight-fitting Speedos, only for them to lift the ban following an outcry from supporters of Speedos. (hopefully!)

The BBC news website and British newspapers hasn't picked up this story.....yet.

I remember in the 70s and 80s going to a "primative" water park called "Eckel's Lake" about 15 miles north of Columbus, Ohio and just south of Delaware, Ohio. It was fed my natural water from the Olentangy River. It was not a "modern water park" by today's standards, and the water was usually somewhat muddy and you couldn't even see the bottom. But it was a lot of fun. Many guys wore speedos and all of the others wore abbriviated swim suits that showed a lot of leg. No one scoffed at the fact that the guys showed so much skin. No board shorts back then!! I don't know if the place even exists any more as I haven't lived in that area for almost 20 years. But if it does, I imagine that guys wearing speedos or even short swim suits would be laughed out of the place these days. What happened?

I heard about the ban on "speedos" at the UK water park. If I lived there, I would be tempted to wear an 80s-style short swim suit that showed a lot of leg just to "test the waters."
