Hi From Melbourne

Post by swimmer3333 » Tue Dec 29, 2020 5:15 am

Hey,

44yr old from Melbourne. Have worn speedos my entire life, especially growing up in swim squads in Queensland.

Endured the typical teasing for wearing them as a teen, but still wear them regularly now doing laps most days and playing waterpolo. Thanks for having me here.

Thanks! They're actually really old from my last year of high school - found them in a box of old stuff and thought I'd see if they still fit.

Hi and welcome to the forum! Do you ever spend time at the beach in your speedos? I’m wondering how many men still wear speedos casually, not just for lifeguard competitions, on public beaches in Australia. Seems to me based on pictures and videos I’ve seen, very few speedos are represented, mostly on older generation men, and all the younger generation males are wearing long baggy shorts and board shorts.

Hey Diveguy,

I do and you do see it but it's fair to say it's the minority. But having said that, nobody has ever said anything and I think it's fair to say that nobody really cares. I was teased much more about it when I was younger, but it never happens now.

Hey diveguy - I wear budgysmugglers at the beach all the time. Anyone who knows me knows I wear them.

Went to wet’n’wild theme park and spent the whole day in budgysmugglers. So much more comfortable!

speedojoker will probably agree

but its really down to which pool or beach you go to. certain pools with professional swimmers, its more common to see speedos

i think theres a trend where we are shifting back to speedos for younger guys! especially with some of the designs our local brands are coming out with. especially budgy smugglers! its really promoting swim briefs are for any age and any body shape.

I think this is true. In the pools I regularly swim at, the proliferation of brands like Funky Trunks is big. It's interesting to see how different brands are resonating with different demographics.

Yeah, I'm thinking of getting a pair of Coco Nuts Budgy Smugglers for fun, and maybe a pair of the Bananas in AB's PartyOn models!!

These patterns are really in at the moment. Even Speedo have been getting in on that action with their escape range.
