I've mentioned this elsewhere on the board, but if I'm in a situation where I'm quasi-anonymous, such as just another swimmer at my gym's pool, I'm fine. Or if I'm on a beach where I don't know anyone.

But if I'm among people I know (like at the beach with my mother in law, for example), my shorts don't come off. That's totally self-consciousness talking.

I’m self conscious around a few of my relatives but not around friends. Most of my friends and their families have seen me in a speedo because we all go to the same athletic club pool. My friends also see the speedo photos I post on Facebook. If they saw me in board shorts they’d probably wonder what was going on.

No, not self-conscious in my swim brief in public. But I've been wearing them exclusively as swimwear since college in the early 1970s so I'm accustomed to wearing very little. I've worn them on the beach with family, to the local water park (once) with a group of 4th and 5th grade Cub Scouts, and to another water park with my son and a nephew. At the local water park some teen asked why I was wearing my underwear and I just let him know it was my swimsuit and carried on. Before I got my first swim brief I wore suits that today would be called square cuts, which is what all of us boys wore at that time.

PNWGuy you bring to mind the fact that I’ve been wearing speedos since I was a teenager, more than 35 years so it’s not like I haven’t had time to get used to being seen in them.

Wow! The right group at the right time. I just bought a new suit that brings everything up and out. It’s the first time I’ve had a suit that has a punch and while it nice to have the boys out of the way, I think feel odd about wearing it in public. I might have to look for a day when little to no one is swimming.

I don’t mind a pouch but the way this one sticks out has made me afraid to wear it. I will someday at the gym hot tub when I’m mostly alone.

I think it looks great. See no issue with it.

Well, it points out a lot compared to conventional pouches

That isn't exactly a swim suit, wearing it as one at a public pool might freak people out a little. I don't know why you would want to do that when so many speedo briefs wearers wish the public would accept them wearing less than boardies.
But whatever. Tell us how it goes.

Yeah, it does point out a little - more of the cocksox-style silhouette than a conventional speedo silhouette. Conventional speedos somewhat "flatten" a guy's junk I think.

See, I like this style a lot more than conventional speedo style briefs. I agree with blueflinch that the traditional speedo style squishes a guy's equipment too much. I really like the newer design pouch style swim briefs and thongs available from many vendors as it gives your equipment a place to be and doesn't pretend that a guy is an eunuch or Ken doll.

Just as women have breasts that protrude from their bodies, a man generally has a penis and testicles. To pretend otherwise, or to be "offended" that you can see them is just silly. Though there are some designs which take this sort of "display" to an extreme, and may not be appropriate for a "family" environment.

BJE, your suit does not take it to an extreme. It is an example of a moderate pouch design that should be extremely comfortable to wear. Enjoy it, because I'm sure that suit is extremely nice to wear.

I agree with your breast analogy. Men shouldn’t have to pretend there’s nothing between their legs.

I like this sort of pouch. Good roominess but doesn’t point out.

Yes, I have been wanting to get each of those styles for a while now for my more mainstream situations. I love wearing the more extreme KoalaSwim stuff though.

The flag suit is a Gary Majdell Ultra Greek Bikini and the Ted one is from Brave Person.

I knew from your previous posts that the flag suit was the Gary Majdell Ultra Greek, and I really want to get a couple of those.

However, I thought that red one was a Sporti Euro instead of Brave Person. I'll have to go back and check out Brave Person again.

This is a Sporti Euro. It has a much more confining front. No pouch really.

So a natural "shape" then? I haven't thought of it like this. I was always fascinated by Ken's lack of ... well, anything much ... beneath his underpants.

I don't feel feel self-conscious at the pool or the beach. When I first started wearing Speedos at the beach, I would be self-aware, especially when I removed my shorts to reveal my Speedo underneath. Now I am comfortable. I love it!
