Jammers.
Came across this video on YouTube of a swimmer putting a hammer on.
Can’t believe what a pain in the ass they are to put on.

Re: Jammers.
Yes these types of suits can be a pain to put on, but this is not the traditional style jammer, which could be put on almost as easily as a speedo. This is a racing-only technical suit, made from a fabric generally only designed to last a few (3-5) races and most likely costs near $300. These are for elite swimmers in national and world championships, and given out like candy when sponsored.

Re: Jammers.
The elite swimmers are convinced that the tightness makes them swim faster.

Re: Jammers.
The silicon bands (leg grippers) also keep them in place so they don't creep up or down, but they make it a real pain in the ass to get them on. If you're wet or sweaty then it make it 20x harder again.
Re: Jammers.
I bought a TYR, medium tech, jammer a few years ago. I think it was about $US80 on sale. The leg grippers were so tight, I couldn't wear the suit. The longer I wore it, the worse it got. The jammer style made even my sorry bod look sleek, but I'm averse to pain....:::sam:::... wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2019 2:27 amThe silicon bands (leg grippers) also keep them in place so they don't creep up or down, but they make it a real pain in the ass to get them on. Re: Jammers.
In the eighties, they had speedos that were generically called '"paper suits," They were a speedo brief cut, but made of a very thin fabric. Competitive swimmers wore them downsized and super tight. The theory was that they were super streamlined, literally like a second skin. They lasted for only a few races before they started to stretch out of shape. I remember seeing them on TV at the Olympics or World games in the eighties.rockman748 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2019 6:46 pmYes these types of suits can be a pain to put on, but this is not the traditional style jammer, which could be put on almost as easily as a speedo. I hate to say it, but jammers ARE faster than briefs. Watching a swimmer underwater at speed, when you see skin rippling against the pressure of the water rushing by, that's hydrodynamic drag. The more skin you can cover with tight polyester, the better. That's why they made rules that you can't wear material below your knees, and above the waist for men and beyond the shoulders for women.

These are the instructions for putting on Funky Trunks jammers. I’ll guarantee you that my Funky Trunks contain more than just a trace of nuts!

LOL! When you swim in the ocean, I guess you have salted nuts....

IIRC, the full, skin tight, body suits of a few years ago (now outlawed by FINA) did reduce times rather dramatically.clem wrote: ↑Sun Jul 14, 2019 12:25 pmI hate to say it, but jammers ARE faster than briefs. Re: Jammers.
Not to mention some suit makers were sneaking neoprene material into them, which floats! Things were totally out of hand.Thom wrote: ↑Sun Jul 14, 2019 5:35 pmIIRC, the full, skin tight, body suits of a few years ago (now outlawed by FINA) did reduce times rather dramatically.clem wrote: ↑Sun Jul 14, 2019 12:25 pmI hate to say it, but jammers ARE faster than briefs. I wish they could find a way to legislate getting back to briefs and conventional one-piece suits.
