Learning to Swim

Post by SpeedoDad78 » Thu May 03, 2018 1:47 am

While I was swimming laps at the gym this afternoon, a swim instructor was teaching a class in the smaller pool. After my workout, I sat in the hot tub. The class ended shortly after.

A mom walked over with her son and daughter and said hello to the instructor, who was cleaning up after the class. She inquired about classes for her kids, who, by the sound of it, didn't know how to swim at all.

The instructor told her that they teach classes for complete beginners and assured her that lots of kids are at the same level. She told the mom how to sign up for the class.

"Do they need any special equipment?" asked the mom.

"We provide everything. They just need a swimsuit," said the instructor.

"We'll have to stop at the store. They've never really needed one before," the mom said sounding a little embarrassed.

"You'll find a much better selection online," said the instructor. "It can be hard to find a good training suit in stores."

"I see. Should I be looking for something in particular?" asked the mom.

"I'd recommend a one-piece for your daughter and a swim brief, sometimes called "speedo", for your son," she replied.

The mom actually blushed a little. "Aren't those, um, a little revealing."

The instructor smiled. "A little," she said. "But I recommend briefs for learning to swim. Other styles, like shorts, tend to have a lot of excess fabric, which can drag you down in the water and make it more difficult. You can get a jammer, but he'll be more comfortable in briefs."

The jets in the hot tub turned off while she was talking; they're on a timer. I stood up and walked over to the button on the wall to turn them back on.

"See, all the serious swimmers wear them," she said gesturing toward me.

"Okay, I'll see what I can find," said the mom. "Thanks for your help."

I got back in the hot tub and the instructor resumed cleaning up. When she was finished, she came over to the hot tub.

"Sorry if I made you a spectacle," she apologized.

"No problem," I replied.

"Mind if I join you?" she asked.

"Not at all," I said.

She removed the shorts and t-shirt she was wearing and set them on a bench. Underneath, she was wearing one of the skimpiest bikinis I've seen at that pool. She walked down the steps and into the hot tub.

We chatted as we soaked. I found out she's a student at the local college and teaches lessons to earn a little spending cash. She was on the swim team all through school, but didn't want to join the college team.

"It's cool that you're confident enough to wear a brief," she said. "The guys my age all wear dorky shorts."

"I'm sure you saw a lot of them on the swim team," I said.

"The guys were required to wear them on my high school team. Not that I complained."

"Something tells me they didn't mind seeing you in a swimsuit either."

She laughed at that. We both sat quietly, just enjoying the water. The jets went off again.

"I should get going," she said.

"Me too," I agreed.

We both got out of the water. Her suit was almost transparent. The shelf where they keep the towels was empty.

"They keep extras in the staff locker room," she said. "I can drop a couple off in the men's locker room if you want."

"Thanks, that'd be great," I said.

I went to the men's pool locker room and she went into the staff area. Assuming she'd leave them near the entrance, I rinsed out my suit and went to the showers. So, I was a little surprised when I heard her clear her throat behind me. I turned around and there she was holding a couple of towels.

I apologized for the confusion, explaining that I didn't think she'd bring them into the locker room. She laughed it off and set the towels down on a bench.

"Have a good night," was all she said as she walked out.

Oh that’s is great ... and yes the stigmas are learned behavior and sooner the better to remove them.

In my job I got to travel in the scope of my work all around the world and we the USA have this hang up about guys wearing a “brief” aka Speedo. A Jammer is just as tight and “aka” revealing of the male anatomy too and this dork suffer shorts has become the norm.

I met some Texas ladies traveling back from Europe. I was riding on an airline home this time and they had nice tans. Fellow Texans like myself I had to ask about their adventures. They informed me they where on Med side of Spain, and they where dressed in Thong bikinis and they said they where over dressed! That men in speedo and Thongs where or nothing was normal. Topless women or nothing at all was everywhere they visited in Spain. They shared some pictures and family beaches their too.

So our prudish ways reflected on our kids helps create this need we need to cover up... and reflects this behavior on them.

Now I blushed. Because like most I wasn’t ever around beaches that kids and family where in such minimally dressed ways. So I just as guilty as others. Just goes to so you if a dad was nude around a kid here in the USA they string him up and stone him and throw away the keys for being a pervert.

Yes these ladies I would say where your ideal stereo type models, these ladies where your average rounds figures of everyday life.

Good for them... honors they shared their experiences.

Take care

Tex

Yesterday, no. It was class of slightly older kids. Most wore jammers. One or two had trunks.

I went for another swim this afternoon at about the same time. The same instructor was there teaching a class of younger kids. There were three boys in the class. Two of them were wearing speedos. The other was in a jammer.

I just finished my pool work this early morning and I seem to be the only one in tight swimwear period for two weeks straight. What a shame too. Some really fit guys were these knee length shorts and trying to swim. It’s a shame... but I guess it’s a drag suit ... when you look at it. I wore my Blue Cassie brief this morning .

You need to post a pic of your swimwear

Your right, but you guys make us all look bad. I am getting closer to under 200 again. 206 this morning, and I just can not physically do what your studs can. But a work in progress... how do you eat an elephant, one bite at a time.

But you guys inspire me and I want to be back 185 again. At least back in 34 turbo suits again. 32 water polo would be a dream come true.

This guy that post with the baby chair, he is like my Brazilian buddy. Perfect well balanced and tan perfect skin. I seem to never been able to built my upper body and tried few times with a trainer too. Just like some are guys blessed with bubble butts, big packages, and lean bodies I wasn’t dealt those cards. But do what I can with the limitations I have been imposed on me.
Two years in wheel chair from a drunk driver sure did not help. Doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy the feel of a speedo brief tho.

Don’t feel like that Obe1. I struggle too and no matter how well you do there will always be someone doing it better. So don’t compare yourself unfavourably with others ( though I think most of us do at times) Just be proud of what you’ve done and are still doing. So post a pic and be proud. And in a few weeks post another and show how you’ve progressed

Thanks, I had a set back and hurt again. I am a pilot and was in Mexico, in the way to the hotel for in an accident. A person without my limitations may have not gotten hurt. But I did living this nightmare all over again. Not to feel sorry, but the obstacles we all have endured, I spent 5 years getting back
To work let time from a drunk driver. Weight 246 from 185 and hired personal trainers and worked daily to get under 200, and because a pilot. 13 years, 11 months and 2 weeks later, taken away again. I can hardly walk, or sit for any length of time without horrible pain. But the pool therapy’s helping, thank goodness. My Si joint has been compromised mainly do my back doesn’t bend in two spot after the drunk driver crushed two disc in my back. So lifting, sitting, twisting, laying down even is horribly painful. The water tho is my salvation. I can get pain free in the water and keep it a little while if I don’t overdue. But thanks for encouragement.
This is release to keep my mind busy, and try a little at a time to get better. I have been fighting Workers Comp but I won the last hurdle and we are preceding ever so slow. To say I have been gut kicked is an understatement, but I will keep fighting to make it bad flying again. I truly love that. That was a dream and I was living my dream and getting paid while doing so. This Mexico thing happens 1sr part of November 17. My fight is not like it was last time in 99 but I am not giving up!

That’s the background... and doing what I can to keep fighting. Me swimming 30-45 mins straight is goal right now. Sad compared to what I use to do.
So please forgive me if I am a little reclusive. I don’t mean any bad toward you guys. Y all inspire me!

I swim sometimes with a 84 year old and I have him a speedo brief and he is wearing it! Make me smile anyway, I can’t keep up with him right now! But I am trying.

Thanks guy... it’s been a hard few months. But back in the water again is helping... I spent 12 weeks in
Pt and made no improvement what so ever and it was weighting heavily on me. I was to fight Workers Comp to continue my benefits and went to the pool on my own accord. Back to when I was learning to walk again, so I started there and two week now I am doing better “hense checking in on this forum”
Now workers comp is getting behind my therapy and should get some pool therapy authorized along with land based and see if we can move this along.

As you requested.... her is this morning after getting home. I just put on one of my favorite suits after showering st the gym. Read your post and took this

Latestarter, you inspired me to dig out my old AussieBums and I grabbed the 1st one and it was a Cassie... styled just like an AussieBum. I wore it this early morning and forget just how comfy it is!
