I like Aussiebum’s slogan “If you doubt yourself, wear something else.” I think the reason most men won’t wear swim briefs is because they doubt themselves.

I'm guessing it's simply a worry that others will not like what they see, perhaps feel they are not physically attractive, or worse. Where I swim, it's a hospital owned rehabilitation health center, not so much a muscle gym. While some very fine male specimens can be seen there, it is far, far more likely to see men there who should have learned nutrition and fitness many, many years ago. Let's just say, it isn't pretty. Luckily there is a gut size at which men will wear their shorts over it, rather than let the gut hang down over the swimsuit. I find it sad that anyone would let themselves get into that condition. I don't know if there is a speedo that could be worn over the hanging belly, not sure I'd want to see that...

I swim at an athletic club. The serious lap swimmers are pretty fit both men and women but the casual swimmers are not fit. There are also water aerobics classes in the pool at various hours. Those people are really big. Up to know however I've only seen one other man in a speedo besides me. I'm there several times a week at various times during the day wearing a speedo so I'm sure most people at the pool are accustomed to seeing me in one.

I've never worn a speedo at a water park with water slides and such. I've always thought I'd feel conspicuous walking around and standing in lines wearing only a speedo. However I've been looking at speedo photos on the Aussiebum, Budgy Smuggler and Slugger Swimwear Instagram pages where there are a lot of photos of men out of the water having fun in speedos on water slides etc. and it's gotten me to thinking that the next time I go to a water park, I don't know when that will be, I should just wear a speedo and have fun and not pay attention to anyone who may be staring at me.

You’re right. I imagine a lot of confident men have no desire to wear a speedo. The men in referng to are those who would like to wear a speedo but lack the self confidence.

I didn't care cause I'm pretty comfortable with my body and who I am as a person.

People should remember that those strangers that would give disgusted look, hateful comments, or laugh at you are not part of your life, they are strangers, therefore their comments mean nothing and don't impact my life. That's what I always tell myself.

The fact that we wear speedos despite knowing that we may get strange looks, laughs or rude comments shows our dedication to wearing what we want.

Great advice. Don’t rely on external validation or circumstances for your self worth or confidence. Be aware that you are perfect as you are, in the present moment.

It took me a while to gain the confidence and courage to wear a brief for lap swimming. Once I felt good inside about my image, I bit the bullet and wore a brief one day. After all the stress of what comments I might endure, I realized no body cared. So much of the stress is just made up in our head.

I had a lot of these kids pointing at me and laughing. I ignored them but of course I was uncomfortable none the less. Teenagers seem to be the rudest people out there.

Judging by what I see at the pool, most men either really prefer shorts, or just feel uncomfortable about wearing speedos because everyone else seems to be in shorts - people like to conform with what's around them, and that desire to conform will overide their own feelings/desires/wishes. I think that's what Aussiebum are getting at - most guys do doubt themselves, you've got to be a real individual to wear Aussiebums. I occassionally see other guys in Aussiebums at the pool, or wearing Aussiebum underwear when getting changed at the gym, and they are always guys that stand out from the crowd - not because they are better looking, but because they project an image of confidence with their body language and behaviour. I'm quite happy wearing my Aussiebums at the pool, and I've even got one of their rugby shirts that I wear in the gym.

I think suffering from a lack of self confidence is something that effects every person, just in different ways. I think many men do suffer with a lack of confidence in their body image, but also so do women. I know a lot of them that don't feel comfortable in a bikini. I personally suffer not necessarily from a lack of confidence, but more or less I worry what other people are thinking of me. The only time I didn't care was when I was in Mexico last summer because I'm never going to see those people ever again.

Teenagers are just weird and immature about sexuality in general. It's to cover up how awkward THEY feel about it, or maybe to impress their mates. Not really a reflection of you at all. And the teenagers will grow out of that immature stage eventually. Or turn into profoundly awkward, dysfunctional adults.

Unless they are on a swim team, in which case they and all their buddies are totally into wearing their speedos . It's just totally normal and they are perfectly at ease anywhere in them. I mean, why wouldn't they be, they are in beautiful physical condition and they know it, they are the young ones that show up in the photos here.
That feeling, and that physical shape, the confidence all becomes a way of life. I've never lost it, there are a few of us here who are older who still have that. Others who were not able to maintain the physique but remember the comfort and feel of briefs and wear them still anyway. Lots of members did not experience and learn this the way I did, developed the fetish later and may or may not have the body to knowingly rock the look, Whatever. Who cares. Not me.

They're also in the life stage that is most susceptible to peer pressure. I guarantee that some of them really didn't care, or may even have been envious of you wearing your speedo, but they sure as hell weren't going to say so out loud, and therefore would never know if anyone else in their group felt similarly. So they all have to show the same derisive " 'tude" towards speedos to conform to their little social group fuck.

I don't have a problem seeing really fat men in speedos. I know they're not the best examples of "looking good" in one, but if I am to be a proponent of men wearing speedos, I'm not going to discriminate against any man that wants to wear one. Anti-speedo people always use the fat speedo wearer as an example of why speedos should be banned, but really, their negative attitude toward speedos wouldn't change if only muscular athletic guys wore them. Then, the complaint would be the bulge. Haters gonna hate.

And really, I'd much rather a fat man wear a speedo than swim shorts that have to be so big to fit a guy like that (fat bellies usually accompany really huge asses). There's enough fabric in a pair of shorts like that to fully wrap a parked mini cooper.

Seeing these guys before they join the swimteam is very telling.I can tell when a young man is being made to wear a speedo brief when he has worn jammers.The looks on their parents faces when they come to me to let them wear jammers.I tell them they either wear speedo swimbriefs or they don't swim on my team.Never lost a team member even making them downsize a size smaller.
