Aruba Trip Booked
Well we finally booked our trip to Aruba for our fall vacation. Of course I'll be bringing an array of speedos. While there, I plan on going on a snorkeling trip with my wife. Has anyone gone on a snorkeling trip wearing only their speedo?

Re: Aruba Trip Booked
My wife and I just signed up for a snorkeling excursion to Molokini Crater off the coast of Maui later this year. I'm probably going boardies for a couple of reasons. First, it's pretty easy to wear a speedo on a crowded beach and remain relatively anonymous, but not so much on an entire day excursion with just 50 people on board a boat. This would undoubtedly freak my wife out to no end. Second, according to the tour operator, bad sunburn is a very common occurrence and they provide rashguards for that reason (and yes, I've seen the other thread about rash guards and speedos). I'd like to remain sunburn-free, so I'll probably cover up as much as possible in the water.
Re: Aruba Trip Booked
Hope you both have a really great trip. I live just a few miles from reefs where people snorkel. I really should get out there. I have a long sleeve rash guard that I bought for that so I don't burn. It even has a rubber chest guard so you can cock your spear gun and a blue fabric pattern used by skin divers. But I'm into watching the fish, not spearing them.

Re: Aruba Trip Booked
I've snorkeled several times in a Speedo. One was on a full day catamaran trip off the coast of Oahu. I was the only one in a Speedo with probably 40-50 other people around. No one commented or gave me any looks. The last time was last summer in Puerto Rico on a mini boat snorkel excursion. That was a BLAST!!! It was a really small group too. 4 other people plus 2 guides. Again, no comments or looks at all. And it was a super tiny Desmit suit! I had to change from a thong suit I had on originally under shorts, which I did on our small mini boat before we got to the snorkeling spot. And yes, sunburn is real, and especially when snorkeling for extended periods. Be sure to bathe in sunscreen before, during and after!!! I'll have to see if I can find photos from our GoPro from that trip. It was so much fun!

I was in Aruba last year and went snorkeling in just my speedo. Actually wound up having to walk along the road for quite a while. I don't think anyone really cared...I know I didn't!! Was thinking of heading back there this October again. Absolutely loved it

Did you just walk to the boat wearing only your speedo?solarguy wrote:I was in Aruba last year and went snorkeling in just my speedo. Yes, just walked all the way there in only my speedo. Was told there was a wreck a little bit up the beach, so figured I'd check it out. Well, the road runs right along the waters edge and in a lot of places, there wasn't any beach to walk on. At first I was a little self conscious, but then figure...what the hell, who cares. Was a very nice afternoon!
And, I would have taken that ride from you Mitch!!

Nice! Where did you stay? I'm staying at the Marriott so I'm not sure what beach that's on.

Re: Aruba Trip Booked
I also went on a snorkeling trip only in a speedo! It was last year, and while I appreciated all the pros of wearing a speedo, sunburns can get really harsh. Definitely recommend slathering sunscreen on!

I'd wear a rash guard, my long sleeve. And I'd cover my legs with a lot sunscreen. I work indoors and am as pale as a sheet, even though I live in Florida. The tropical sun in the mid-day hours in the summer is absolutely brutal.

Been to Aruba great vacation spot! Saw a few speedos near the hotel but not a lot. Still go for it and have fun, happy vacationing!~

I just ordered a Sporti rash guard from swim outlet and a Sporti Euro brief while I was at it.Thom wrote:I'd wear a rash guard, my long sleeve. And I'd cover my legs with a lot sunscreen. Re: Aruba Trip Booked
I enjoyed a lot of snorkeling in Hawaii during a time when I made many trips there for work. The first time I went out snorkeling, I did it in traditional swim trunks. Knowing I was going to be returning a lot, and committed to squeezing in a lot of beach time, i.e. snorkeling time, on every trip, I knew I had to do something about my swimsuit situation. I'd secretly yearned to wear a speedo my whole life but never did. I was afraid to at this time as well but I convinced myself to go shopping for a new swimsuit, thinking I would buy a squarecut or much smaller pair of split sided swim shorts as a "starter suit" in an effort to work up enough nerve to eventually buy a speedo. Long story short, I saw the very brief speedos hanging on the wall, and I grabbed the smallest cut in black, tried it on in the change room, and just knew right then that I would never be happy unless I went full out with a speedo. It's the only thing I wore from that day forward at the beach, in the pool, for snorkeling, and eventually some freediving, and splashing around in the surf and yes, the feeling of doing all of these things in just a speedo is amazing!shadowmn wrote:Well we finally booked our trip to Aruba for our fall vacation. They really do make a difference. I can't imagine swimming in anything else.diveguy wrote:It's the only thing I wore from that day forward at the beach, in the pool, for snorkeling, and eventually some freediving, and splashing around in the surf and yes, the feeling of doing all of these things in just a speedo is amazing!

Also have been snorkeling when I'm the only one wearing a speedo (all Caribbean trips). No weird looks or comments either. And obviously you'll feel so much freer!
