Speedo acceptance - more than half!
Good news for speedos! Expedia does a yearly survey on beach behaviour and frequently take a measurement on the public opinion of Speedos. They still might not be in completely in "style", but they do have a 63% world acceptance! Check the latest report in the link below
https://viewfinder.expedia.com/news/exp ... =social.vf
Compared to two years ago, speedo acceptance went down in America from 52% (in the picture below) to 48% (in the link above). Why do less Americans accept speedos today is beyond me. Let's just keep wearing them and hope that they come back in style

Re: Speedo acceptance - more than half!
Hopefully a 2017 report will be out soon. (Although I wouldn't bet on any major changes!)
Re: Speedo acceptance - more than half!
The report said that six percent of men in the US wear speedos. Well I'm one of probably less than one percent of men at my athletic club that wear speedos. I've only seen one other guy, a lap swimmer wearing one. He is older than me and wears his speedo in the manner I hate which is to pull it clear up to his waist, looking rather ridiculous. Speedos should be worn low on the hips. At least if you want to look good.

I'm in the same boat at the YMCA where I swim. So far, I have only seen one other guy in a speedo, and I have only seen him once. There are a few guys I see in jammers, an one or two in square cuts.

I'd like to know what location in the US is pushing that average up, because I certainly have never been anywhere where it remotely resembled 6% of guys in speedos. Most of the time, I'm the only one wearing a speedo. Six percent is roughly 1 out of ~17, which I've never seen.BJE wrote:The report said that six percent of men in the US wear speedos.

The survey doesn't say were and how often men wear them. If the number is accurate I'd suspect it includes swim teams, occasional wearing and wearing at home pools. Not just at public locations.zaps wrote:I'd like to know what location in the US is pushing that average up, because I certainly have never been anywhere where it remotely resembled 6% of guys in speedos. I think that the surveys don't poll people who actually live near the water. Maybe those people wear speedos to trim the plants in their backyard, but definitely not to the pool or beach. I have only ever seen 2 people in speedos, besides myself, on the island that I live near. I have been going there for over 9 years and have spent literally 50+ days there some years.
Just a straight guy who likes speedos and aussiebums
Re: Speedo acceptance - more than half!
The whole point of speedos, the intent of the man who invented them, is to wear them low on your hips. Same with jeans, and with the newer cuts, even chinos. Anything I've worn, since I was a teen, has always wanted to ride at the hip bone anyway.BJE wrote:The report said that six percent of men in the US wear speedos. That's fair. Now that I'm looking at the article more closely, I see it says "only 6 percent of American men claim to wear it" which may include people who say that they wear a speedo because the wore one once in their life, or wear under boardshorts but never uncovered.BJE wrote:The survey doesn't say were and how often men wear them.
