Speedo approval
I wear a speedo at the health club pool where I work out. However I usually feel a little conspicuous since I'm usually the only man wearing one. I've wondered if someday someone would complain about my state of undress and I'd be asked to put something else on. Well today I decided to ask the aquatics director if there were any specific rules regarding the suits that may be worn. Her reply was that what they don't want is naked swimming, which she said they had had. She said that the rules say you must wear a swimsuit. They don't want workout shorts or street clothes in the pool or hot tubs. She said, besides you look good in a speedo so you're fine. She said that occasionally a really fat man will wear a speedo and with his stomach hanging over you can't tell he's wearing anything. She said that raises some eyebrows. I said I just didn't want anyone to complain about what I'm wearing. She said again you're fine don't worry about it.
Now with the full support of the aquatics director I'll be more confident in wearing my speedo regardless if anyone gives me a strange look or kids point. At least I know I'm not going to be asked to leave or change.

There ya go! Just like we have been telling all along, nothing to worry about.
When I was at the Y a few years back, I always wore my black Aussiebum (equalivant to the fresh line today) and never had an issue, even though I'm not in as good as shape as you are.
Wear them with pride!!

And you DO look good in your Speedo. Awesome. When I first moved here, I joined a local club that had a collegiate length, 25 yd., outdoor pool. (Six lanes with starting blocks!) I asked the same question you did of the aquatics director, and she gave the same answer. I must confess, it was easier to bring it up with a woman. There were several other people who wore Speedos as well, all fitness swimmers like myself. Except for when the swim team practiced, you could always get a lane. Unfortunately, the facility closed and got turned into a charter school. They also had four HarTrue tennis courts. The basic membership was a bargain. I really miss it.BJE wrote:I wear a speedo at the health club pool where I work out. ....Well today I decided to ask the aquatics director if there were any specific rules regarding the suits that may be worn. .....She said, besides you look good in a speedo so you're fine.

Re: Speedo approval
You know how I got an ok at mine, was when I saw this guy go swimming laps in a N2N suit. When he is around I feel overdressed.
But the people that seem to have a problem most times with what you wear are not always other swimmers but the non swimmers in the facility

Re: Speedo approval
I recently had quite a road trip and of course I still did my daily lap swim. In four of the following town's public competition/lap pools over the course of a week I was not the only guy in a brief suit swimming laps. Idaho Falls. Ogden. Las Vegas. St. George. Casper. Billings, Great Falls.
I should probably add that nobody seemed shocked or offended at the sight of a swimmer in a speedo at a pool. It really is perfectly normal.
Lately at my usual neighborhood pool there are three lap swim guys almost every night. Two of us in proper attire, another in a jammer.

One of those towns listed is mine, and I'll add that I always see lap swimmers in speedos, it's the proper gear, but at the same pools during public swim times speedos are never seen.
Re: Speedo approval
I wouldn't say that anyone has seemed shocked or offended by my speedos, but I can imagine guys laughing on the inside or telling their friends about the weirdo at the pool. I've had elderly women tell me I look "beautiful", which is flattering. I've had children point and laugh. I wonder how many guys who see me would like to wear one but don't have the courage.swimmy wrote: I should probably add that nobody seemed shocked or offended at the sight of a swimmer in a speedo at a pool. I will say though that I also like wearing jammers. Funky Trunks jammers that is which are very tight and very low cut. They aren't as comfortable as the freedom of a speedo though.
Re: Speedo approval
You look great in those. I haven't tried that brand yet. I have a couple Asian jammers. One is from China, a Yingfa. As you say, tight and low. It fits really well. Yingfa and NSA are used by swim teams in China. They have their version of tech fabrics, like the Speedo Aquablade. I bought a Japan Arena jammer. It's made of a funny rubberized material that I don't really care for, and it was expensive. More a racing tech suit. All of them have the anatomical cut I've mentioned in another thread, like a speedo with legs, rather than the seam-down-the-middle style.BJE wrote: I will say though that I also like wearing jammers. Re: Speedo approval
Funky Trunks fitness jammers are so low cut that you have to lift your testicles up then pull the suit up as high as you can in order to cover the front and keep much crack from showing.

I love that low cut, they they work really well for those of us that fit the low rise swimmers. Even the Aussiebum lowriders fit properlyBJE wrote:Funky Trunks fitness jammers are so low cut that you have to lift your testicles up then pull the suit up as high as you can in order to cover the front and keep much crack from showing.

I've been on 4 cruises so far, which is most frequently where I am when the weather is nice enough to be in the water, and 99% of the time I don't see anyone else wearing a speedo. I have never gotten any negative reactions to wearing my speedo. I would say that people approve and have no problem with speedos, just that many don't want to wear one themselves.
