Guys I have been wondering if there is a body type that shouldn't wear a speedo?

I think there are body types that should and should not wear many types of clothing, not just Speedos. Not because I don't want to see some body types in various clothing. Rather because certain clothing just isn't flattering for the individual and could cause others to make unkind remarks and reducing one's self confidence, if that makes sense.

I'm all for wearing what you want! But I also hate when people have low self esteem because the cruel members of our society have caused them to have insecurities of their body.

I think wearing speedos is allowed to everyone who feels good in them. Despite there are several body types that better shouldn't reveal too much, that's true. But it's the same thing as with other clothes, too.
But in swimmingpools and small lakes the whole thing is added by a further topic: hygienic reasons. The more (often dirty!) clothes are worn when swimming, the more dirty water becomes. So everyone is invited to wear speedos or less when swimming!

The only time you really hear this being said is in certain western countries. In some European countries they don't care. I think society and fashion blogs shame people into wearing what they think is cultural appropriate

The thing we always hear about here in the USA is how really heavy (big bellied) or old (saggy and wrinkled) or hairy (or some combination of the foregoing) men in Europe and elsewhere are all wearing speedos and how "gross" they look. But in my opinion, those men's appearance aren't at all improved if they're wearing giant baggy trunks so I feel all men should just wear speedos if they want to and to hell with everyone else.

Plus, the same USA anti-speedo attitude exists regarding young men who are in shape and ripped and clearly "have the body" for a speedo, but it makes no difference to all the assholes out there so what the fuck!

Men - all men - wear a speedo if you want to and to all the naysayers out there, go fuck yourselves.

I don't think there is any clothing that people shouldn't wear due to their body type BUT I do think there is plenty of clothing that certain body types think twice about wearing in public.
Swimwear is only an issue when you are out of the water, I'd go as far as to say that below water you are not really in public view simply because even with goggles the view is isn't clear over significant distances. I do lap swimming at a well maintained University pool and when I see a hot guy or girl stood in the water I am guilty of ducking under to you know "Check my goggles aren't leaking" and I would say that if the eye-candy is more than ten metres away forget it I can't tell if he is in Speedo's or if she has a nice arse.
I wonder if people see a title like this and think of fat dudes in Speedo's, so I'm gonna think about the very skinny and say you can be too slim for baggy shorts because they'll look huge on you but you could get away with Speedo's.
Fat guys in Speedo's not something I'd be keen on but I suspect that if I ballooned to 18 stone I'd still wear 'em!
It all comes down to if you don't like what you see don't look!

Just my opinion, but this post is a bit discouraging to wear swim briefs. At least, I have now been a bit discouraged.

Hmmm, should a woman in good shape wear a bikini to the beach? There isn't any doubt that the answer should be YES.

Should a woman of any age, in average shape wear a bikini to the beach? All the speedophobic women would say YES and support her and say that she should have confidence in doing so.

Should a man go to the beach (or pool) and slosh around in the water in a pair of trousers? I say NO! However, it's come to that and meanwhile women of all shapes, sizes and ages [including the ones who shouldn't really be at the beach (or pool) at all] are wearing two dots and a dash and say that no guy should wear "speedos" or any type of sensible, practical, comfortable swimsuit. Two thumbs down!

P.S.: Has anyone ever noticed typical advertisements for vacation getaways whether in print or on TV? Often you're shown a couple walking along the sandy white beach shore of some tropical paradise. The woman is usually wearing a skimpy little bikini (or one-piece) and her obviously fit male partner is typically wearing board shorts. Pretty soon women will just be going naked to the public beach and men wearing wetsuits covered from neck down to ankles. That way assured the woman can be the center of attention. Pretty f-upped cultural norm I think.

I think Diveguy really nailed it.
Beyond that, all I could add is that a heavier guy might be wearing a speedo as part of his comedic license. Maybe a better way to say it would be that he thinks it's funny and is able to convince those around him that it is, too. Having a pretty good sense of humor, I would likely go along with it. An exceptionally funny big guy could sure get some laughs by wearing a speedo where most fellows his size and shape wouldn't dare.
When I look at a guy wearing a speedo it would be out of admiration for having that fine, superb bod. One that is out of shape would not impress me; I wouldn't be looking but I hope I'd never indicate disgust or disapproval. Where I swim every evening we're more likely to see the latter than the former, by far!

It makes me sad that speedoboi would get discouraged reading comments by folks on this site. How can we usually say that briefs are the reasonable swimwear compared to ridiculous board shorts, and then use language somehow implying that those with the wrong body shape "think it's funny", etc...? Unless we are being hypocrites, in my opinion the answer should be unequivocal: "NO, there is no body type where briefs are inappropriate." And we should take care less our additional remarks somehow make it sound like that's not what we really believe. Speedoboi, please don't be discouraged!

And I thought that this is a place where people are encouraged to wear speedo's, and where we say that speedo should be worn by everyone from 9 to 99.
Honestly, for me, a question about a body type that is not supposed to wear a speedo is the same as if I asked someone is there a body type that is not supposed to wear a blue t-shirt. Of course that everyone who wants to wear it - SHOULD wear it, no matter what anyone thinks.
It is ridiculous that people are "offended" when someone wears swimming attire to the beach. It is sad that people who are expected to be open minded react in this way.

While the title of this post does sound negative and could encourage people to discriminate against different body types and the wearing of speedos, I think it highlights society's attitudes and should help remind us to respect others, regardless of their size.

Me, I'm veeery thin and some people have commented in the past that wearing speedos makes me look more skeletal: in short, they quite happily say they don't like seeing thin people in speedos.
Despite that, I love wearing speedos and don't let them bother me too much... Their comments have affected me, though, and some days I do feel self conscious. That's when I really start to wish I had a body such as Wriggler Rusty's!

Don't listen to them. First of all, a thin/skinny body looks terrible in baggy shorts, and even squarecut swimsuits look a lot better on muscular guys than they do on skinny guys. What does that leave, briefs of course! IMHO, you have the single most important attribute for wearing a speedo: a flat stomach. And judging by your avatar, you could benefit from wearing a speedo that's cut a little briefer along the sides, rides a tiny bit lower on your hips, and snugs in more tight and smoothly to your body. Don't listen to the speedo haters, go smaller, not baggier!

Thanks so much for your kind reply, diveguy. Really appreciated: just the boost I need. I also appreciate your comment about which suit might look best on me. I'll keep my eyes peeled for one with narrower sides! It seems the choice is a bit limited where I live - obviously they cater for grandads and their more traditional 'baggy' Y-front styles. I'll have a look online, though. I don't want anything too risqué: I would like to be able to find a family-friendly skimpier outfit, if that makes sense/exists.

Hey 100, if you can find a polyester (or poly blend) water polo suit it might fit the bill. They tend to be low riding, narrow on the sides, snug, and they keep everything tight and in place. Black and dark blue are good colors for modesty. Good luck!

I'm really skinny too (nearly 6 ft tall and only 145 pounds), so I know how you feel. If you look at my recent "I will wear it" post in photos, you'll get an idea how a much smaller suit can look. Though that Desmiit may seem a bit too small to you for your next step down - at least even though it is not polyester the lining seems thick enough that it does not show too much. I also love the Sporti euro cut sold on the swimoutlet.com website, a bit more coverage, and super comfortable. At least in here in the states they are a great low-price value for their durability (not sure if shipping to France ruins the affordability).
Edit: actually, I suspect Bullseye's suggestion about water polo suit probably is better...
