Would appreciate some help...
In the early to mid 70's, the official USA Boy Scout Swimsuit was a tight fitting red square cut. I know, because I owned one. I am 99% sure that I threw that suit out years ago...
At the time, I remember being very embarrassed to wear such a tight fitting suit. I was a "husky" boy and would have much preferred a less revealing suit.
Now I am trying to find any information on that swimsuit. So if anyone is bored and wants to dig through the net, I would love any information that could be found.

Re: Would appreciate some help...
So since I haven't found anything about the old scout swimsuit, I dug out some old scout handbooks. They did not have pictures of the suit I have, in fact al pictures were actually artist drawings. I was surprised by what they showed as swimsuits that boys were wearing.
These are from 1969...

And here are pictures from the 1972 edition. Still mostly wide sided briefs. They did slip in one kid wearing green swim trunks.
So even the Boy Scout thought boys wore "briefs" to swim in. Where did we go wrong??

Re: Would appreciate some help...
So the suit I had was definitely a red square cut. I would say the suit probably had a 7 or 8 inch out seam. So I would be interested if there are an old scouts that remember that suit.
Re: Would appreciate some help...
Here's some pics for you, electric. The suit was up on ebay at one time, but sold, apparently.

He's allowed because it's his thread that he started. So yes, anything that is applicable to this thread and Electric's desire to find a specific suit is more than appropriate and acceptable. Surprised that you haven't understood by now.

Talk about being forced into sad fantasies! Electric isn't the one posting fantasies on every thread on this entire forum of late. If you want to play pretend here, I suppose you have the right. But at least play nice.jace wrote:must we be pulled into electic's sad fantasy suit?
Re: Would appreciate some help...
That red swimsuit looks typical to the era it came from. Which was a more enlightened era when it comes to men's swimwear, before the dark ages began. I remember as a kid having a developing fascination with all things swimming, diving, etc. and pictures like those of wearing small, form fitting suits - while doing anything on, in, under or even near the water - would get me aroused. Didn't quite understand what or why it was happening, just that it made me feel good and I was really into it.
When I was in high school, I selected swimming as an activity for P.E. They let us use our own swimsuits if they met certain qualifications, but most of us just used the school issued "Dolphin" swimsuits. Which were very similar I'm guessing to your small red scouts official suit. Same general shape and briefness, but all black instead of red. 100% nylon, which I realize now was the main requirement because these things always got stuffed into your small lockers all wet every day, and nylon was the only thing that dried in those conditions and didn't get all moldy. I didn't think it back then, but only realized it years later, but that little black "dolphin" suit was actually my first real speedo-like experience. This post of your memories of your red boy scouts swimsuit certainly triggered some memories of my own!

Bullseye, thanks! That certainly looks like the suit. I know I held on to that suit for a long time. Probably finally threw it out 15 years ago. Of course I'm not absolutely sure. Could always be hiding in a box in the basement...
Thanks for posting the other pictures, too. Just shows how quickly times changes.

I don't know why I never looked on ebay. There is one on there right now. The question is whether I want to spend $50 on a size 20 suit. I need to decide if owning the memory is worth it...

Hey bullseye, thanks so much for pointing me to ebay! No one bid on the suit, so I was able to buy it from the seller for $35. Now I need someone who is a size 28 to model it for me.

You are welcome Electric. I wish I could squeeze into a 28, but there is no way. Glad you were able to get it.electric2010 wrote:Hey bullseye, thanks so much for pointing me to ebay! Re: Would appreciate some help...
The suit is just how I remembered it. The material is 100% nylon, but it is very thick and rough. I was surprised that I was able to pull it up just below my butt & crotch. Now if I could only get someone to come & model it...
