Vimeo video make fun of Italian friend for wearing speedos.

I came across this video on Vimeo... A group of friends go on vacation but when they realize their Italian friend wears speedos they jokingly try to raise money to buy him shorts.

What do you guys think? I know they are joking but this further makes it taboo in our culture for guys to wear speedos. For example what if he converts to shorts because of the pressure from his friends... then he goes back to Italy and continues to wear the shorts and guys start to follow his lead because it's not socially acceptable to wear speedos anymore... because his "trendy and "cultured" friends said speedos are out and shorts are in.

I only watched half of it before I said "fuck it" and clicked off it. It's typical that even in "speedo friendly" foreign countries, American poison culture is taking root. This was shot in Hurgada, which is a famous beach/dive resort area on the Egyptian coast of the Red Sea. It is an awesome place to wear a speedo, (terrorism worries notwithstanding). The water is warm and the last thing you want to be wearing as you slip your body into it and underneath it is long/baggy American swim pants.

I search for new freediving videos several times a week. In a place such as this, it used to be unheard of to see male breath hold divers wearing anything other than a speedo, because swim pants are completely stoopid fucking shitfaced inappropriate to be wearing when the whole point is to be gliding under the water as cleanly, effortlessly and efficiently as possible to help conserve your limited oxygen supply. The better freedivers know this and wear speedos, but I am seeing more and more younger generation divers bowing to the social pressures and wearing swim pants while freediving. Sadly, the truth is that even in speedo friendly cultures such as the Italians, more and more of the younger guys are spurning speedos in order to be fashionably hip with American style.

It might take a generation before the young folk are again choosing to wear speedos in an act of differentiating themselves from their swim pants wearing fathers. In the mean time, all of us speedo loving guys need to say "fuck you!" to the speedo haters and wear our speedos anywhere that swimsuits are appropriate.

You got further than me, I couldn't even be bother to watch the narrow-mindedness of stupid people. Personally it looks like the guy wearing the speedos needs to find some new friends.

IMO, he wasn't wearing a swim brief, he was wearing square cuts. There was nothing wrong with what he was wearing. He really needs new friends or his friends need an attitude adjustment.

The best thing to do is not to even entertain these peoples narrow-mindedness and completely ignore them, the less attention they get the better. As all it does is help spread their negative views to even more people who follow like sheep.

Thanks guys for the responses. You're right... giving these guys the time of day is not worth it. At first I thought I might have been taking it to seriously as I believe they were joking... but I thought about it more and came to the conclusion that these guys are idiots. I bet they wouldn't have told that lady in the bikini to buy boardshorts. I'm sick and tired of double standards. But I don't pay attention to others anymore and just wear what I want.

Probably not as thanks to the double standards, that would be sexist. In the same way It would be frowned upon to tell an over weight female to consider wearing a bikini that covers more and not one 10 sizes too small.

I work on the principal now with the amount of comments I keep getting from choosing to wear a pair of jammers (let alone a pair of briefs) to swim in rather than boardshorts. Is if you don't like what I'm wearing, either stop looking as no one but yourself is forcing you to or if you really have such a problem with what I'm wearing, I'll gladly remove it on the spot for you.

And to all the females that love boardshorts so much, try wearing and swimming in them and not the shorter female ones, the proper guys past the knee ones.

I watched this video a couple times, and contrary of the others, found it as more of an oxymoron on the board short, especially with the retake having to be made with the bartender type guy....seemed like something other then briefs was new to him. Will add though, the boarding techniques of the skiing guy was really well done!

Everyone is afraid of a confident guy, that's just it. Just flaunt it, and shrug it off, maybe even tease the other guy for not doing leg day and maybe see where that goes. But really, everyone will try to knock down the confident person.
