Interesting. Looking at the comments, responders overwhelmingly prefer the briefs. That's even more encouraging.

FFBoy,

That is great news!!!

When I started high school, which was an all boys school on the Gold Coast, during PE if we were swimming speedos were compulsory. Each there was a swimming carnival and every one who got in the pool wore a speedo, no jammers or dork shorts.

By the time of my final year I remember that guys were starting to wear jammers or the ‘speedo only’ policy wasn’t being implemented and guys were wearing dork shorts. I can only imagine that since then it has gotten worse with more jammers and dork shorts but this link gives us hope.

I was pleased with what I read on Facebook. It would be nice if it was mandatory at health clubs with pools as well.

I'm seeing it more often at the swim clubs and academies, there are quite a few that wear speedos to that. However, with the schools swimming there's usually just one or two every so often that turn up in speedos but nothing more than that.

Jammers and square cuts are the most popular amongst the school swimmers, I think everyone is now realising that boardshorts are impractical - and lets face it, squarecuts and jammers are just as practical as a pair of briefs so it's great to see guys switching to the swimwear.

Sure, I'll agree with that about square cuts and jammers from a functional standpoint, but psychologically, nothing compares to the virtual, actual, and emotional freedom one gets from wearing a small pair of briefs! Especially while frolicking in the surf, or swimming/snorkeling/diving in open water. It's just the most amazing, beautifully liberating feeling to have nothing but a small, snug fitting Speedo on your body, especially in the water. Gives me the tingles even just thinking about it as I write this!

When i was in school in the 80's everyone wore speedos to the pool. and from what i hear from parents the school ruling for PE uniform did not change, it was just that the schools did not enforce the PE uniform rules for a while possibly due to pressure from parents a lot of boys developed a liking to boardshorts and i suppose with money being short parents would not want to buy more than one type of swimwear?.. but recently at the school where my sisters 3 boys attend there are a growing number of the boys going back to wearing speedos. not sure if it is through choice or if the schools are getting a little more strict over uniform. however on a recent trip to the Greek islands i did see more boys wearing speedos than last year. my twin boys of 3 both wear speedos and always have they like them they have been given the choice, but as most of their friends wear them they chose speedos...

I will say in Boston they are making a come back at the gyms. I was in a pool at the YMCA and of the 6 guys in the pool 3 of us were in briefs. I have even seen guys go from hammers to the briefs just because it was not a big thing. It's very well accepted now. Hope beaches are next

In Arizona I would estimate 80% of guys in after school sports are in briefs. Girls one piece suits are getting smaller and smaller. A lot of swim teams here are sponsored by TYR. When i was in high school the dive team wore Jammers and all the swim team wore leg skins or some kind of body suit.
