Disappointed in Florida beach shops

I've checked several beach shops here in Florida and I'm dissapointed that only one place has speedos/swim briefs for sale. I even went to an outlet mall and found an Izod/speedo store. They had maybe three styles and they were either boring black or blue.

Yes, being from NE Florida myself, those are pretty much my options. I live 25 min from the beach, and all of the stores there sell exclusively knee length or longer boardshorts. I tried Dick's Sporting Goods (seriously, that's the name) and all they sell is a 4" speedo in black... Although I recently found much further in town a gay friendly men's store named Toolbox selling a lot of Clever, 2xist, etc. and had a good conversation with the owner about his supply and demand. He said its tough, because he goes to a pool party, and all the guys are wearing just shorts and stuff; no potential customers. Come on, this is Florida!

I wonder if there are shops closer to Miami (or other of the more "touristy" locations in Florida) that have a better selection. When I bought my first Speedo in Hawaii, there was no shortage of places that sold them, even the skimpier ones. I bought my little black 1" sided Speedo at Sears! Even the snorkel/dive shops sell them there. No surprise that Dick's Sporting Goods is not a good option. One opened up where I live a few years ago and I have never seen swimwear of any kind shown in their Sunday newspaper ad circulars, Dick's is just not swim friendly.

Last year I went Miami and checked out the shops in South Beach, one place had some briefs in a few colors but not much. I am headed Miami tomorrow I hope I'm not let down.

Nice, obviously only gay men have the right to wear stylish, comfortable and sexy underwear!
All straight guess should do with baggy, thick, itchy underwear.
Common, you can't be a men if you are wearing something nice and soft underneath!

I was in Puerto Rico in the Old San Juan shopping/tourist area and I saw quite a nice assortment of speedo type suits.
Saw the same thing in a beach front shop in French Saint Martin as well.
So I guess these types of suits are more popular in Latin settings.
Which is good, since the men seem to be comfortable with them and the women don't seem to mind.

Too bad about the swimsuits at the gay pool party, I would expected (hoped for?) speedos and thongs.
Actually there is a portion of Dewey and Rehoboth Beach where the all the gay guys hang out (i.e. no women observed in that section.) and there were plenty of speedo clad guys on hand.

South Beach Maimi has Renewed my faith in the beach shops. Last night we found briefs, thongs and squarecut suits all over the shops too bad the one I liked wasn't available in my size.

Unfortunately ... welcome to America!!! The glorious days of Speedo-freedom have been replaced by the culture of seriously covering up with bulky swimwear. That's the reality. The only option is to shop online and continue to wear our suits at every opportunity with confidence and pride!!! Speedo on!

Agreed this is a board short past the knee United States which is very sad IMO. I live in southeast Florida and only places I go to try on swim briefs is Sports Authority, Dick's Sporting Goods, and a Swim shop outside of the Fort Lauderdale aquatics complex. The rest I have to purchase online from either Amazon or www.swimoutlet.com.

My goal is to convert all the teenagers in my complex to speedos, but first going to start with jammers(baby steps first). I wore jammers to my pool and made fun of all of them for wearing parachute board shorts and told them all that they look retarded and suck for swimming, it's like dragging a parachute underwater.

We were playing some water sports that required the player to move quickly in the water and I swam twice as fast as any kid there. They were impressed and asked what my secret was. I told them the jammers decrease drag created in the water so you move quicker and also mention that speedos are even better than jammers and that's what I use when training for the triathlon.

Now a few of them are asking their parents. It helps that I have a muscular body so they see it doesn't look bad on me and hopefully I will see them wearing them in a few weeks.

The transition is slow, but I believe it starts with the younger generation if we are to make a difference in the current speedo culture.
