Sexism and Discrimination at its best :(

Post by frankjath » Sun Feb 02, 2014 12:50 pm

Man using the hot tub at his gym wearing a square cut which in my opinion is not at all skimpy was told to put something more appropriate on. I can't believe societies views toward the male body...this is sexism at its best. Grow up people guys have penises. http://flip.it/HIMmq

Well, this society's view in the USA at least. Go to France, and the societal norms over there would have him take off the long, baggy, down-to-your-knees clown shorts (banned in public pools over there) and slip into a Speedo! For sanitary reasons! Gotta love it!

I also am not surprised at the stupid reader comments at the end of the story, some of which devolved into the typical gay bashing and only gay guys on parade floats wear speedos type of horseshit. After viewing the video, I don't think this dude was trying to make a scene or statement at all. Just looks like a guy who works out and is proud of his appearance and wants to wear a swimsuit that doesn't hide his legs, imagine that!

And besides, what the hell kind of "gym" is it that doesn't expect their bodybuilder members to wear brief swimsuits and skimpy posing trunks??

That's just so sad. While there is a difference between a racing/competition suit and some 'other' suits, a square-cut is hardly inappropriate or indecent. Yes, people should learn to accept and enjoy the body ... and cherish the ones that put themselves out there and show some effort!

Wow this is incredible!
I had a similar experience at my local pool one Sunday morning just before Christmas last year, wearing simple Royal blue aussieBum classics. I'd finished my laps, jumped out of the pool and was lying in the sun when this fat 30-something year old woman waddled over from probably 20 metres away and told ME to cover up because I was 'showing her everything'.
I tried to laugh her off but she was dead serious and persisted, saying "I think you should put some shorts on" to which my witty retort was "I think you should fuck off and mind your own business"
She got offended, clearly she'd never been put in her place before, so flopped up to the damn lifeguards and complained, without taking into account that the lifeguards are my mates, I chat to them every day I see them. They told her to get over it, she's at a pool and people will wear speedos. She flopped back to me and told me I'm disgusting, I asked if she'd looked in the mirror lately and told her she's a fat c**t who shouldn't be allowed outside without a burqa. It was awesome, it absolutely made my day. I'm not normally a confrontational asshole but she was being a right opinionated self entitled bitch.
I mean I get it, if I'd been wearing a see thru mesh g-string it would be totally different, but a speedo? Come on....

His swim suit is not a swim brief. Yes it's short, but nothing immodest. Even if he was wearing a swim brief, who cares. My suggestion is for him to file a complaint regarding female swim suits. If a female wears a skimpy swim suit, he should complain and state that he's not comfortable with the female's swim attire.

Ricardo... I'm surprised that happened to you! My Yankee assumption is that in Australia it's the land where "anything goes" and everyone wears speedo cuts all the time. Guess that's really just Brazil. Ha! Two friends were telling me the other day about a trip to Brazil where they were in the high end neighborhood that borders the beach, because basically everything borders the beach, and men were walking around in tiny Speedo cuts, sitting at bars, cafes, street corners. They made it sound like you have the women in Dior and Chanel and the men in tiny speedos. I must go there! Sorry to hear you had that experience.

Only once in my line of work have I ever had to approach a patron about his swimwear - and that's because he was wearing a pair of white boardshorts that went completely see-through when wet which obviously is inappropriate for a public swimming pool.

The swimwear that guy was wearing seems perfectly fine to me as long as nothing was hanging out or nothing was clearly visible when wet.

It sounds like the catalyst of this all was the patron who complained - as i'm sure the article mentions he has worn the shorts at the club before.

This happened to me once at the beach when I wore my American flag suit. I was told that children are around and dont need to see that by a man and women with children and they threatened to call the police. Not wanting the added attention with police I left.
Life is too short to worry what other people think.

Hey Ricardo - come and swim with us at Prince Alfred Park or Victoria Park pool in Sydney. I know it's a little far from Perth (!!!) but we'd be happy to have you join the brotherhood here.

Nooooo problem with speedos at these pools. Doesn't matter if patrons are gay or straight - if you don't wear speedos when swimming or lying in the sun, you'd probably be asked to change into something more revealing or risk being kicked out.

Yes, this is fantastic! I would love to have been there! Now I'm wondering if this Speedo bashing is perpetrated by people who are uncomfortable with their own bodies? I bet no one who has been hassled for wearing form fitting swimwear was ever hassled by someone who was lean and toned...

Don't be so sure about that. I'm sure many of us have put up with all sorts of obnoxious behavior ranging from disparaging stares to snide comments. In my pool it seems to be the teens, tweens and middle to older aged ladies. Funny thing, most of them also think they are swimmers, but they're not. One dude that was new to the fitness center got mouthy about my choice of swimwear (behind my back, of course) and I found out he was quickly put in his place by the guys in the locker room!
