Italy!

Post by hardspeedo » Fri May 10, 2013 7:01 pm

Hey guys! So I'm going to Italy (Novafeltria, specifically) with an opera company between June 15th and July 20th. I assume their beaches are speedo-friendly, but how friendly? I'm debating about getting a skimpier-than-usual speedo for the occasion. Full coverage in the back, but thinner sides and more of a pouch than your typical Nike or Speedo brand. Would I be out of place, or not at all? :)

I think you'll fit right in. Please look at the topic "Slim Speedo" including my thoughts on tiny speedos in Italy here on the "Speedo Talk" section of the website. there are many many pictures posted lately on the "real Guys in Speedos" blog of what I'm guessing are italien guys in very skimpy low rise bikinis and brief speedos, plus go to the YouTube channel "minislip13" and all the linked channels that he also has which are hundreds of guys in Italy in small speedos. What I want to know is is it a current fashion trend that lots of the dudes there are sporting the really skimpy bikini styles this year? And who makes those suits and are they available online to the USA?? Maybe you can do some investigating while you are there!

Here's what I would do. Bring two pairs of speedos with you. One conservative and the other your favorite. Then when you get to the beach you can size up the situation, find a place to suit up, remind yourself you only live once, and put on the skimpier suit. You just need to exercise caution if you go for a swim. When I was 18, I got caught in a riptide while swimming off the coast near Pisa. Pretty scary, but I got out of it ok, thanks in part that I was in a speedo rather than American bloomers. Ha Ha. Seriously though be careful if you go swimming. Oh and if you intend to tour any churches or cathedrals, leave the shorts behind, or wear travel pants. If you need anymore info don't hesitate to ask. You still have my e-mail I assume. Man I wish I were going! Italy is my favorite!

Hey im from Rome and I think you can wear that kind of speedo, the brand is called port cros and its very accepted here! You could google it and maybe buy a pair in Italy! And even if its not what everyone is wearing who cares! You dont know them

I had some of the Port Cros slips that were fantastic. I loved the fact they were cotton and somewhat loose and totally comfortable. The elastic on the side and the little buckle made them perfect for swim or lounge. Wish I could get them via mail order!!

don't count the "American Bloomers" out as something bad. I have a leg today that was largely saved by the fact I had them on. Was Scuba diving and forgot to drop the short before I got geared up. While diving a barracuda came out of the rocks and went for my leg. Fortunately, he got a big mouthful of material and only a little bit of my flesh. Dr and Dive Master both agreed that he would have had a huge piece of my thigh (or worse) if not for the leg on the shorts. I was also taught in Life Saving that pants or shorts can act as a life preserver when filled with air. Now when I dive I still wear my speedos, but the scar is a lot smaller than if that barracuda had really been able to get to me. (happily I wasn't diving nude!!!!!)

Well, I guess there is no perfect suit for all circumstances. I've heard that to protect from jellyfish stings you are best off in a full body lycra suit. Think spiderman going for a swim. As for the inflatable bloomers, I'll have to try this out. I'm heading up to bear lake tomorrow so I'll let you know how it went. By the way as for Italian swimsuits, if you go on e-bay, and go to mens athletic clothing and then type in swim in the search box, there is a seller from Italy that offers some pretty cool suits. I don't know if they are the brand you're talking about, but it might be worth checking out.

Ok, I just looked it up, the sellers name is Solarissport-us. Now I didn't see the port cros brand but you can always e-mail the seller and see if they can get their hands on this. In my years of experience on ebay you would be amazed at what you can find if you just ask.

Just got back from the lake. Well, I knew based on how permeable the material board shorts are made of that if they did hold air, it wouldn't be for long. What I really wanted to find out was, could I tread water while tying up the legs of the shorts and fill them up with as much air as I could .... I came up with two conclusions. If in doubt where a life jacket, and two, don't swim with barracudas!
