Reviving an old trend in Triathlon
I've noticed lately there has been a number of people doing the "vintage" triathlon wear. i.e. doing the entire thing in a speedo. Our local club is encouraging it now, and was wondering if anyone else had seen it. Personally, I don't have the 'perfect' speedo body, so I stick to my tri suit.
Re: Reviving an old trend in Triathlon
I might to a triathlon next year. Turbo makes some cool suits for triathlon. Right now I'm just swimming and cycling, and would need to start running.
Around here in Pennsylvania I'd be the only guy in a small suit!

Re: Reviving an old trend in Triathlon
I need something with a little padding for the bike portion. I do them in either tri shorts (short jammers) or a triathlon skinsuit. I would love to do it in a speedo-style suit just need to find the right amount of padding.
Re: Reviving an old trend in Triathlon
Yeah, this year a British guy competed against Faris in Austria in just a speedo.
It's a hot look + I'd encourage it - it looks + feels great + shows yer a serious athlete........
Whereabouts is this club that actually encourages you to wear a speedo? Sounds cool! I'd join!
I have a few padded suits - just google 'men's tri brief ' or check on e-bay.
Personally I find a speedo much more comfortable + practical than tri shorts anyway..........

Re: Reviving an old trend in Triathlon
In my last triathlon, I saw a lot of younger guys sporting speedos and swim trunks. Had I not been a little anxious for the race, I would have perve on them more.
I had a tri suit on. I guess I can try doing the entire race in my speedos since my bike saddle is very much comfortable. As long as the speedo is tight, I think it would be okay. Not sure my Portseas can handle it though.

It is our local tri club amazingly enough. One of the best thing about triathletes... most are is pretty good shape with very very nice bodies.snakestone91 wrote:Yeah, this year a British guy competed against Faris in Austria in just a speedo.

Re: Reviving an old trend in Triathlon
Here in San Francisco, I see a lot more guys are going out jogging in short running shorts instead of those baggy "Half Pants".
I hope the trend picks up steam!!!

Re: Reviving an old trend in Triathlon
Never liked when tris went away from the racing brief look for guys. I bought up several padded Speedo tri racing breifs when they started to fade from the scene. Havebeen the only Speedo wearing racer in many races, but I love the look, feel and fit.
Re: Reviving an old trend in Triathlon
Just came from a Half Marathon today (wife was racing in it) and the winner a young guy 18-19 wore only a pink Budgie Smuggler and singlet the whole race. I remind you this was a run only. I think he usually races in Triathlons as the company that ran the race normally does those and he was a local.
Man I wish I got a picture of him he was hot and he filled them up nicely!
So yeah maybe a come back is in order... might have to watch more Tri's!

Re: Reviving an old trend in Triathlon
I have done many's tri's including a number of IM's in only Speedos. I have some photos somewhere. I will post when I locate them.
Today, I still run occasionally in a speedo as I like the freedom and comfort. No one bothers me and sometimes I get few whistles. This year I have done 2 trails runs and 2 10k's wearing only a speedo.

It would keep everything in place better, but around here you wouldn't have protection from bugs and insects. Hitting a bug at 45km/h hurts!snakestone91 wrote:Yeah, this year a British guy competed against Faris in Austria in just a speedo.

Re: Reviving an old trend in Triathlon
Years ago I volunteered at the World Triathlon Championship held at Walt Disney World Resort. It was totally surreal to see hundreds of men racing down normally clean and wholesome Main Street U.S.A. clad only in their speedo briefs and sweating profusely. (I immediately started sweating profusely too!) This was only outdone by the scene at the finish line where once the runners were past the chute had a cool-down area complete with outdoor shower: simple hose-on-a-stick, whereupon all the Europeans proceeded to strip naked right out in public.
WDW will never be the same!
