A town near where I live has an Olympic pool. But it's been closed for several years to save money. They were supposed to renovate the whole thing including the changing areas which were pretty bad. Anyway, the pool is starting to sink into the ground at one end and so they may take it out and put in a kids "splash pool." I can't believe this is happening. The article said nobody is interested in lap swimming. Well they would be if they maintained the pool.

That sucks Justin. They have a water slide but no time clock at the county park pool. Grrr.

On the bright side there was a water polo practice on Sunday and tons of speedos- seems to be catching on around here.

After I finished my swim I overheard a comment "all the special guys get one (speedo)" and "its a long walk" (to the locker rooms). Ha ha. They'll get over it.

LOL! That's pretty cool.

You really need a time clock. Some of the county pools have them here. I inherited a divers watch from an uncle. But it's big and clunky and i don't really like wearing it. I'd rather just look up and check the pool clock.

This is like people riding bicycles in long shorts.

You eventually realise why that isn't done and then you go and buy proper Lycra stuff. And you get used to it. Some people still don't like it - but to heck with them. Wear what is the most efficient to get the job done. And if someone wants to take a look at the goods, then I don't mind. I'll take it as they like what they see (hopefully). :) I do avoid white or red however, those show a bit too much detail! ;)

As for speedos, the Aussiebum ones are my favourite, they do some really cool looking ones.

I absolutely love to wear speedos to the pool or beach! I wish Americans weren't so uptight with MEN wearing spandex speedos/bikinis. What is up with this? I'm trying to figure out why men and women (yes, even women) don't like to see too much of the male bulge. Woman wear g strings and skimpy bra-like tops revealing more than I want to see. It's always those that shouldn't be wearing them! I even have many gay friends that roll their eyes when they see me or other men wearing a speedo! I am a member of our neighborhood swim and tennis club which has diverse members, straight, gay, black, white, families, old and young. I've worn a conservative speedo twice and have gotten bad reviews . . . not that I think I look bad in them. I started to wear tight squarecuts and even they are a bit too revealing. It's so sad . . . I love a speedo tanline!

I was "escorted" off a local lakefront swimming area for wearing a rather modest squarecut speedo, being taken right by bikini-clad girls. With their reaction, you might have thought I was streaking!

There was a municipal pool in southern Utah that had proposed a ban on two-piece suits on women. There were howls of protests from the community, so they lifted that ban. The Speedo ban: it's still there. Only knee-length board shorts are acceptable.
This is unreal.
I feel for you!!!! I was asked to leave a Holiday Inn Tiki bar in Folly Beach, South Carolina. I was going to wear a skimpy speedo that day but decided to be on the safe side and wear more of a wrestling brief (3-4" sides - think WWF). Well, after ordering cocktails next to a huge woman wearing a thong and breast barely inside her top, the bouncer came up to me and my partner and told me my swimsuit was inappropriate and had to leave. I have never been this humiliated in my life! I've never even been teased for being gay, etc . . . no bashing, etc. So . . . this comment made my face turn red in frustration. I left as asked. Too bad for them at the Holiday Inn tiki bar. I thought I was an "asset" to this narrow minded establishment. Their loss. Never have to go back to SC ever again. (kidding . . . my best friends live there)!
Other men in speedos with similar experiences????????

I have worn speedos for my entire life (father was a swimmer too) and I have never had anyone ask me to leave due to my suit. When I managed a Radisson Resort I asked men to wear a more appropriate suit when they arrived with a suit so skimpy pubes were out and other things on the verge or when they wore white unlined suits(including boardies). We did not feel it was appropriate for a family pool. Regular speedos were fine and there were lots of the 1". Just to keep your hackles from popping up, we also asked women to cover up if there was hair out or tops not really covering the nipples. They too were asked to leave if in unlined white. Thongs were not acceptable on either sex. (that rule was instilled after a mother bent over while in a thong and flashed the dining room with her unshaved ass and worse)

Back to your issue, if you were indeed in a modest suit when asked to leave and there was a woman in a thong and/or hanging out of her top I would have immediately requested the manager and told him that unless he was into a discrimination law suit, you were staying or the females were leaving. Unless there was a notice posted in the room or advance warning with the reservation you would be within your rights to demand a refund and compensation for a move to a different hotel. It is not uncommon to restrict dining or beverage area patrons from being in swim attire. However, that rule has to be directed at both sexes. Discrimination is illegal anywhere. It may be embarassing, but you are just standing up for your rights. This would be the same for the place you mentioned that guys were asked to leave the beach. The city or county wouldn't relish a discrimination suit.

Thanks for your message - much appreciated! I understand policies in public establishments BUT . . . nothing was posted as to what is appropriate to wear and, it was a Tiki bar on the beach - what do they expect?????? I did what I was told in a state of shock. I wish I could relive that moment - I would have said something nice in my defense just to shock them back.
It's so sad that this has to happen in our day and age. Why are people so uptight about a man wearing a "speedo" suit showing off his body and bulge? I would hope that most people would love this!!!!! Straight, gay, men and women!!!!! Oh, well . . . I've tested the waters and will learn from this. I will wear "bored" shorts when at the Holiday Inn tiki bar from now on! Or just stay on my beach chair wearing my speedo!

OH to be able to relive moments and do them differently. I usually speak my mind and figure it helps me avoid ulcers. However, there are many times I spoke and wish I hadn't. The one place that I always speak out on is discrimination. More than once I have been in your position where they say, "I'm sorry, swimsuits are not appropriate attire." If I look around and see one female in a swim suit I immediately say. "She must have slipped by -- I'll wait here until you ask her to leave due to your 'no swimsuit' policy. I wouldn't want to think your were violating sexual discrimination laws." It is usually followed by some stuttering and being escorted to a table. Now that it has happened once, you should be prepared for the next time.
