"speedo" behind the times
"Aussiebum" is going to eat the "Speedo" brand for lunch if "Speedo" does'nt "get on the stick" with some new styles. Come on "Speedo" get your act together or you are going to be left with no one buying your suits but high school swim teams.Get someone other than your grandmother to design your suits!
Re: "speedo" behind the times
Speedo is pretty big in Australia but our school swimmers wernt speedo. Theyre such an icon here. I also love the feel of the speedos and probably all of the nylon elastane ones because of the way they stretch, fit and wear into your lumps and bumps, but not the Speedo endurance ones. The aussiebums are definately really nice to look at in the material and cut with that hint of "are they transparent or is that just the wet bits" look.
actually duncan, I'm really just echoing you!

Re: "speedo" behind the times
Aussiebum is going to need a lot more exposure in the States if it hopes to even get near Speedo. Everyone knows Speedo here (not that they'd wear them) but outside the gay community, I think you'd be hard pressed to find people who are familiar with aussiebum. College athletes - swimmers and water polo players - might know it.
That said, I love aussiebum. I have a dozen pairs of aussiebum but not a single one from Speedo. The reason is the boring colors. aussiebum blows Speedo out of the water as far as color choice and the different cuts available. I guess Speedo spends all its design money on high-tech suits that get it a lot of press.

Re: "speedo" behind the times
Speedo wearers here in the states, let alone AussieBum wearers are few and far between. I was happy to see a young guy at the St Patrick's Day parade this year wearing a shirt that said 'Real Men Wear Speedos' Maybe someday the people here in the states will allow men to be as proud of thier 'packages' as women are allowed to feel about thier bodies. My opinion is that most men are scared to display what they have as it will be held up to others for comparison, as well as women feel that someone may think 'Oh, poor thing, she settled for that' or 'Jeezuz girls, look what she has, lets get him'. LOL Again, in my opinion, any cock in a speedo, regardless of size, shape or color, is a beautiful sight.
Now about style and comfort. Being a child of the 70's, I remember Speedos in their infant stage. The story I started under 'Build a Story' is based on those original speedos. They were made of the same nylon tricot fabric. Trust me boys, nothing feels sexier and looks hotter that your cock cradled in a soft layer of nylon tricot, water dripping off the tip...oh, sorry I digressed. I do love the new fabrics and I appreciate them for their sexy appearance, but nothing will ever top nylon tricot for pure animal display of a mans cock! I appreciate AussieBums line, the styles and colors, the fabrics and the prints. I agree whole heartedly that Speedo better pull their heads out of their asses before they are nothing but antique collectors items, but that means a complete change in direction for the US mens swimwear market. We need some high visability men with amazing bodies to come out of the closet and don their speedos...HOLLYWOOD TYPES come to mind, to get them on the front pages of the celebrity rags, and back into the daylight of mainstream US consumer options.
My two cents.
Matt

Re: "speedo" behind the times
in the past, and particularly the early 1980s, all the brands offered a broader range of colors and lots of prints. I wish they would come back again, but I suspect that won't happen until sales get significantly better.
Mark Spitz made Speedos popular and kids were rushing to stores to buy a pair. Today there is such a fear of being immodest that guys wear only boardshorts. compare saggers to a well fitting pair of Levis 501s or Wranglers.
we can only pray.

Re: "speedo" behind the times
In the present day Phelps wears tech suits at meets. I guess he wears black speedos for practice. I've seen that old poster of Spitz at the ISHOF museum....the stars and stripes speedo that looks like nylon and he's wearing al lhis medals. Any pics of Phelps like that I wonder? The famous pic of phelps is the one with him and the bong. Man, what was the guy thinkin.SpeedoMike wrote: Mark Spitz made Speedos popular and kids were rushing to stores to buy a pair.

I can assure you that USA Olympics suit was 100% nylon tricot. During those days lycra was but a gleam in some chemist's eyeJustin88 wrote:I've seen that old poster of Spitz at the ISHOF museum....the stars and stripes speedo that looks like nylon and he's wearing al lhis medals.

That Spitz poster sold very well and somebody finally figured a lot of gays were buying it!

Here's a scan from a magazine from 1975 that was posted here before. It was a series of pics from the Aquatic center where I go swimming sometimes. Not many speedos there today but everyone was wearing them back then. I just love this pic. The guy is awesome. Suit looks a little like the one spitz was wearing.
Re: "speedo" behind the times
I don't know what the big deal is here in Canada and the States about us wearing Speedos. Maybe it's all that inherited priggishness from those puritanical sects fleeing persecution in England, who settled here in the 1600s. I don't know, but even in 2011, "speedophobia" is definitely in the air. Euro-guys don't seem to have a problem. They have the right idea.
Here, yes, most guys wear board shorts. They can look hot, and if you ask me, they show off a guy's calves in a nice way. But it's when I hear all the negative comments about speedos, such as they are immodest, do not wear if you're over 30, nice teen boys don't wear them, or avoid if chubby, or small, or large, etc., that I start to feel like this priggish attitude makes us feel bad about being male.
Our junk shows through? Well, yeah. We're guys. Why should we feel shame in the way nature created us? Boardies, which can look nice and are comfortable when dry, are literally a millstone around your waist when they are wet. The comfort afforded by speedos is unsurpassable. Why shouldn't we enjoy the cradling effect on our man parts, the snug fit on the behind, and the sleekness when swimming?
Speedos are a suit made for guys by guys who understand how it feels to be a guy. So wear them well, and enjoy your maleness.
That's my rant for the morning. So now, I'm going to slip on my Sporti, shock all the neighbours, and do my lengths, slowly and leisurely.

Re: "speedo" behind the times
I agree about the nylon Speedo's - the feel of them is incredible on, and even better when they are wet. I'm not into tight-fitting lycra swimmers - though nothing against them. Must have something to do with growing up with nylon Speedo's. and then getting converted to AB's, who really increased the erotic value by making them sheer, even through 2 layers of nylon. Michael Phelps has some really hot photo's in swim briefs - just do a Google image search. In the meantime...
