I started swimming again over the Summer after not having swum laps in 4 years. I bought an American size 28 Tyr pair of Briefs. They were a little tight but I felt like they worked well. Sometime in the summer I started having some issues and ended up going to the doctor a lot over the winter and found out that I have a varicocele. I've gained a little weight since then so I bought a size 30 pair of Tyr briefs, but I feel like something is wrong with them too. I have both pairs and here is what I feel about them:

The 28 is real tight and feels a bit too tight around my junk.
The 30's let my penis flop around a little too much while swimming laps. Maybe the fabric on it is a bit bad too.Because when I get out, you can clearly make out the head. And Last time I got out of the pool, they were holding my penis out almost perpendicular to my body, which isn't necessarily flattering.

This'd be fine for a party or what not, but its awkward when swimming laps at our local pool. I understand things will move while I'm swimming, but I'm thinking its because these are not tight enough? Maybe its also because the lining isn't thick enough.


What would y'all suggest for lap swimming? I intend to start competing in meets too, and there would be a bit of modesty required to compete in them.

the best bet is to try them on before you buy them. Figure out which suit fits the best and keep the tag so you know the maker and model of the one you like. If you are of the shy type that prefers to do it by mail order/internet, find out before you purchase if you can return them if you don't like the fit. Your other alternatives is to lose weight to get back in the 28's comfortably or do some in pool adjusting before you get out. Unfortunately, fit is always trial and error. Each maker is slightly different and each design within a makers collection with fit slightly different. Good Luck.

I don't think any of my local stores sell em. Thanks for the advice though! I did find an older pair from four years ago I like the fit on. I'll start there.

Sporti brief cut are ideal for laps, great comfort, and my experience is they hold my goods in place. They are cheap, come in about 7 different colours, and a good choice if you swim in pool water daily and need to replace them often. The colour does fade quickly though, but seems to 'stop' at a certain point. I had a navy blue that turned to dusty blue in about 3 weeks, but the fabric stood up, and it I got 4 months of daily lap sessions from it before the shape had completely gone. The Sporti Euro is cut to be more revealing. I find Sporti's sizing charts reliable. Try swimoutlet.com for this. Good luck.

I find Adidas trunks to be pretty good for lap swimming, good shape on them and they're not too loose at the front where you get the 'movement' like Speedo briefs. I, too, have to reposition myself before I exit the pool before I get funny looks but with my Adidas I don't really have to.

I ended up buying a pair of Sporti Briefs (The polyester one) and a drag suit.

The sporti briefs fit a lot better than the tyr ones. Still holds my junk a little weird... but its okay.
