Spent the weekend at a central New Jersey beach. There were no speedo clad guys to be seen. But I did see a few guys wearing square cuts. I was surprised, because I usually only evr see guys in board shorts at NJ beaches.

Anybody else seeing more square cuts?

I just recently picked up a pair not knowing if I would like them, but I will say I really do. I didnt want to sink $50+ on a pair, so I picked up a knock off just to try them out.

What beach did you end up going to?

I've actually been thinking about picking up a pair myself!! Does anyone have any good recommendations on a brand?

I have a black adidas square cut with the lines on the sides. Like to wear it as underwear too. Seems to work for both swimming and underwear (and other things). Fabric is not the normal (speedo type) where its a little harder its rather soft (like an aussiebum).

I had a pair of the AussieBum squarecuts at one stage - I liked them but they did seem to bunch up a little in the crotch on me in general wear.

A great stepping stone towards speedos becoming more acceptable.

"Square Cuts" are simply a variation (a tighter fit) of the old style "Trunks" like most guys wore before the 90's.

If a speedo isn't the right thing for a given body form, a square cut or the looser fitting trunks are definitely a good alternative to dorky boardies.

By the way, I notice that short running shorts are also making a comeback here in San Francisco.

SHORT running shorts? Hurray! I wear mine all the time, everywhere. HOT HOT HOT

I think square cuts look better on bigger guys and muscular guys than they do on skinny guys such as myself. I think skinny guys tend to look a little dorky in the square cuts and actually look much better in the smaller briefs as long as the briefs are sized right and ride low on the hips and not high on the waist. But not knocking square cuts, though, they are so much better than long baggies!

Try Sporti sqare cuts from Swim Outlet. Many colors and butt seam-I wear them and speedos depending on the situation,and they are not dorky! Get over it. At Sporti price you can't go wrong. Yhey are size correct.

That's the main reason that I don't care for squarecuts as much.....they do tend to bunch-up in the front.

I was getting ready to say the same thing. For normal training days I love the sporti jammers. Yes, I know, but they're acceptable at the YMCA.

SwimOutlet is fabulous. I get all of my suits there. The Sporti ones seem to last about 4-6 months and I wear them about 4-5 days a week in the water.

Same here Dave. They look great on the right guy. On me, they start out okay and then get scrunchy.

Jammers work okay for me since the legs are longer and don't scrunch.

I finally got a Japan Arena jammer. I waited and waited and bot one for US$59 on an ebay "buy it now." I watched it for months at US$89 and then US$79. It's cut like a speedo with legs. Doesn't scrunch my package or ride up. the only suit I have like that is a Yingfa from China. They aren't the sexiest suits around but they are really well made and fit awesome. Has a tech fabric. I'm a size 30 and have to order a large in asian jammers.

Of all my speedos for swimming I still like the Aquablade. In a size 30 it's real tight but it fits so perfect. too bad they stopped making them.
