Hey guys, i live on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.
A local radio station ( 92.5 Gold FM) is aiming to have the longest line
of guys in speedos ever assembled!
It's being held on Saturday, 31 March 2012 @ 10am @ Kurrawa beach -
it will be like heaven on earth! They have loads of lifesavers, sportsmen etc
all lined up to participate.
If any of you can make it, come join us - will be a great event & hopefully a
great boost to speedo wearing on the beach!!

I'm in Perth so will just have to offer my moral support.

I hope it goes well and gets heaps of positive publicity.

I guess you'll be posting some pics here soon afterwards?

Tony,

That sounds like a hoot - shame I won't be back in Australia in time for it.

I'd definitely love some pics if you take any - you can email them to me and I'll post them for you if you like - davespeedoevans@hotmail.com

From what I can tell, a young lifesaver named Mathew Barclay, 14, was found drowned that day at the lifesaving competition, so I'm guessing it was canceled or postponed.

Here's a newspaper report: http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/t ... 6312926396

I could only find this post on the Gold 92.5 FM Facebook page.

""Simone Cook --Y dont u make the biggest speedo line a tribute to Mathew and get all of the surf clubs involved so we can smash the record and always rember the record was 4 a good cause think this would be a good tribute 4 the young man.""

So it looks like it was a tragic day.

The report says he was the third lifesaver to drown in this location. Someone posted that maybe the lifesaving officials should take a look at what they're doing that so many young men have died.

Justin,

Thanks for posting that information - what a terrible thing to happen.

Out of respect I won't comment any further in this forum or on my sites.

I know - it was an awful weekend for us on the Coast. Such a shame, a wonderful young guy killed in a tragic accident in the surf. Calling off the world record attempt was the only right thing to do - none of us here felt like having any kind of fun.

Just to let you know that the lifesaver events will no longer be held there after pressure to have them moved. This s the third death at the each during competitions. I would ave thought that one death would ave been enough, et alone three.
