Question about Aussiebums in General

Hey guys, so I was wondering and have been for quite a while:
Everyone seems to LOVE Aussiebums on this site, and I think it'd be fun to buy a pair, but I love speedos that are tight, soft, and stretchy. Aussiebums seem to be none of those. Or is it just sizing? Also (if I recall), they're nylon. What are the boons of nylon over lycra / spandex besides it wears better?

They also have a decent selection of Spandex/Nylon suits. About half of the entire line. I have a Storm Wonderjock suit that fits great!

Duly noted! Thanks! What do the nylon suits feel like?

I've recently bought a pair of Caussie nylon size 14 after reading about them on this site

I was surprised at just how comfortable they are when compared to my large collection of lycra Speedos. They stretch where needed and yet are so 'soft'.

I don't own any ABs so can't do an honest comparison, but I guess nylon is nylon?

Thanks for the info! I assume they aren't as stretchy as spandex, correct?

No, not stretchy. They are cut quite differently to Lycra, and instead of scrunching your tackle up, it lets it all hang more freely. They feel great on. AussieBum are a bit more daring with fit and style than others, especially there Loose style which really lets it all hang out.

I tend to agree with you actually. I have a few Aussiebum suits. One is a lycra suit, and I still prefer to wear my Speedo or TYR suits to the beach or the pool. Maybe it's my swim background talking, but I find the Aussiebum suits to a bit too ostentatious and not as effective in the water. I'm more about speedos as being a hot sexy piece of athletic gear, whereas I feel like Aussiebum markets male lingerie.

Hmm, also duly noted, Swimmerboy. I think I may get one before summer starts just to try 'em out. Thinking a maroon classic cut. :)

AussieBum is a weird/different speedo.

I've had ones that I love and ones that I hate. With the nylon not being as stretchy I find I have to have the perfect fit otherwise they are too big and floppy or too small and I'm showing a plumbers crack.

Best of luck and look forward to heading how you go.

My favorite aussiebum is the splice. they make a square cut and a smaller version. really like the smaller version. :P

Dave,

You're right. When they fit, the nylon ones look awesome. But they're harder to fit since they don't stretch as much. I have a "Loose Freshwater." It feels very light weight like it's going to fall off. I don't think I'd get a loose one again but the regular one. It doesn't fit me or look like the ones on the models on their web site. But then I don't have a body like that, so that's a very big part of the problem. (and there are really fit dudes on this board who could model for AB) I wish I could try them on in a store to try different sizes..... Having muscular glutes helps I think....

I love the nylon ones. They last longer and they are more comfortable. I also like seeing guys in them and how their package moves around when they walk - unlike the other lycra/spandex/etc that leaves a guy a big smashed lump in the front

Sizing Aussiebum is always more luck than anything. It seems every design is cut to a different set of sizing standards and some of the suits I have that are 16 are loose and fit great while some that are 18 are too tight. It is totally strange on how one company can have variations when using the same material.

The old Speedo brand nylon suits fit better and used a better nylon. I have some old Speedos (probably at least 20 years old) that are still fitting perfect and not faded. A couple have had the elastic dry up, the the nylon is still pristine. I don't see the Aussiebum's having that longevity. Sure do miss the patterned and various cuts of the old Speedos.
