"Trunks" VS Speedos

For those who might not be comfortable with wearing a speedo for swimming or on the beach or poolside, here's a simple suggestion.
I started swimming back in 1962 at a public pool and "Trunks" wear the standard for guy's swim wear. Trunks were simply nylon water-tolerant shorts similar to short gym shorts and looser fitting than a competetive racing briefs.
However, no one sells trunks anymore and the only alternative are short running shorts. While not as sexy or controversial as a speedo, I think trunks woud be a great alternative to "Dorky Boardies" and if the fashion police would accept them, apparel makers would sell them.
In fact, Here in San Francisco, I've noticed a lot of guys are now out jogging in short running shorts. They are very popular for the Bay To Breakers and San Francisco Marathon and the fad might be catching on for casual wear.
