Hi finally_18 - go to your local gym and see a fitness instructor to get a program designed to suit your needs. Don't be embarrassed - there are bound to be others there in the same boat doing the same thing. The good thing about gyms - everybody is so involved in what they are doing they don't take any notice of what anyone else is doing. Gym classes are also a good way to start (again, speak to an instructor) as you are with other people, which encourages you to follow through and makes the whole fitness thing a lot friendlier, and if it's friendly, it's easier as you don't feel you are fighting the battle on your own. It's also a good way to make friends. It won't take anywhere near as long to start getting fit (despite being tough at the start) as you think it will. Good luck.

honestly, the only way you will see real results that will last is if you stick with cardio at the gym and eating healthy foods, and proper portion sizes.

lets be real here man, it took you MUCH longer than 3 weeks to get to what ever weight you are at, its going to take MUCH longer than 3 weeks to start really noticing serious gains. your body is only just starting to burn off extra weight at around 3 weeks. your best bet is to do what has already been mentioned, go to a gym, get a workout routine made for you by the staff or the trainers who work there, and stick with it. along with eating healthy foods in their proper protion sizes.

the road you are trying to get onto is a long one, its not going to be easy, but it for sure can be done, you just have to stick with it. there is no "instant" cure. you have to work your ass off (almost quite literally lol). you can for sure do it, but you need to give yourself a reasonable about of time to do it in. consulting with trainers and whatnot at a gym will for sure help you get on the right path.

PS: cardio is the best wait to burn off fat. and swimming laps in a pool is about the best kind of cardio.. and gives you a reason to wear the speedo ;).

good luck, i know you can do it ^_^

Outlaw_tiger is absolutely right - you are not going to get results in three weeks - if it was that easy the gyms would empty out in no time because everyone would be fit in a couple of weeks. You won't see results (if you go for about three hours a week) until at LEAST week 8, and even then it won't be drastic, but certainly enough to get you motivated to stick it out - it certainly did with me, and I now really love gym and look forward to going. Going with friends can be a good thing, or a bad thing. It can make you feel self-conscious when you are starting out, and if you can't keep up with their routines you will start feeling inadequate. Personally, after getting a program set up by a trainer at the gym I'd be inclined to go it on my own for the the first month or so, as it gives you an opportunity to get familiar with the routine, and also make you feel more comfortable in the gym. A lot of gym's have beginners studio's with equipment that is a bit easier to use than the 'big boys toys' out on the main weights and resistance equipment floor. These rooms are great as they are usually quiet, and everyone else in their is also starting out. Cardio exercise is also a great way to lose weight, as stated, but you trainer will set you up, generally, on a mix of cardio and resistance exercise. it's tough...no. it's really tough, but worth the effort to see the results. Most gyms also have dieticians, so see one of them to get a healthy diet set up. it's not rocket science - cut out most of your fats and sugars, eat a lot of raw veges (get creative with salads) and you are off to a good start. Keep us in touch with how you go, and if you need encouragement - that is part of what this forum is all about. Start buying those smaller Speedo's!

Oh, and most importantly set yourself some goals - and don't make them over-the-top or unattainable. Be reasonable with yourself. Make sure you state your goals to your trainer - that way you have voiced them to someone which can be sort of a way of making a commitment to what you are trying to achieve.

couldn't have said it better myself aussiebumfan. and an other tip with regards to food, when you buy your groceries, it best to read all the ingredients, some food items don't look like they have much sugar in them, but they really do. you don't have to 100% cut sugar out, but try to keep it as low as possible. also, almonds, and pistachio nuts are great for mid day munching. have a hand full of each and surprisingly, they will usually fill you enough to make it to your next meal ^_^. also, try eating more meals a day than three (make them smaller than you would have with the 3 meals a day though). i usually try to eat 3 main meals (breakfast, lunch and supper) and then have snacks like an apple and a couple almonds, or a banana and a granola bar every two hours. eating this way will help kick start your metabolism, and it will start burning off fat a little quicker ^_^.

Research has shown that diet is by far the biggest factor in losing weight. So eat good fresh foods etc rather than processed stuff etc and junk food. Try to have Carbo foods 2-4hrs before you exercise as thats the timeneeded for absorbtion (don't worry to much until you're eventually out for over an hour) and generally as soon as you can after exercising to help stop shocking the body and to reload it with energy. After exercise also have some protein. Milk, not those protein drinks as it helps with the muscle regeneration. Also, I wouldn't bother with weight training if you're trying to lose weight, its all about fat burning and you will also build cardio fitness, so get out and walk or run, but don't go hard, only about 150-160bpm and no more - it shouldn't feel hard. Also, do it regularly and early is better to kick start your metabolism for the day and build your exercise time up, don't just go nuts with it and get hurt.
