Jock straps

Are jock straps an American thing, or are they sold in other countries? Starting in Junior High in the U.S., we had to wear them for gym class. I never liked them, maybe because I associated them with the authoritarian gym teachers.

I'm not really a fan of jock straps either.

I find a good, comfortable thong does a much better job of taking care of my equipment.

Even when I was in high school I refused to wear a jock for football practice and games. Instead I wore a pair of bike shorts without the pad. It was so much more comfortable. Hell, knowing what I know now, I should have just free-balled! That would have been way more fun!

Yikes. LOL! If I was in high school today, I think I'd wear UnderArmor, supportive underwear, which are sort of like your bike shorts without the padding. I have a few thongs. I particularly like the "Y" back ones, which are the most comfortable, for me anyway.

I would say only really used with a protective cup or box in Europe Thom. Or for appearance but not everyday use like America

Unfortunately, Thom, I'm gonna have to disagree with your sentiments totally. I love, love, love jockstraps! No, they're not worn or sold commonly in Australia. But because of American culture (Hollywood) and American porn especially, they've always featured heavily in my erotic fantasies - big, smelly, sweaty footballers stomping around locker rooms in nothing but little white jockstraps, slapping each other's rock-hard butts with towels, etc. That's how all American blokes all act, right? You're all secretly pansexual, jockstrap-wearing studs in the locker room?

Andrew Christian-type jockstraps (bright colours, interesting cut-outs) are popular with gay men here. You can buy them in one or two adult shops that cater to gay customers. Also, some department stores stock brand-name jockstraps. You can occasionally get Calvin Klein, Armani Emporium, etc. But they're outrageously expensive - a true luxury item.

Interesting that they use the cup model. They may be used less in the U.S. now in high school. From what I hear, high school kids don't even shower after gym anymore. Some refuse to go to gym at all.
