keep / get fit motivation

Post by landoffrozensheep » Wed Jan 15, 2020 4:18 pm

Thought a thread to keep up the motivation of those trying to get fitter or simply stay in shape (whatever shape your happy with) / mutual support

I dropped from 14 stone+ / 196lbs / 89kg in December 2018 to 11 stone 4lbs / 158lbs / 71.66kg summer 2019, since then I've gained probably over a stone / 14lbs / 6.3kg back (bad eating habits over Xmas/flu/SAD/general lack of motivation)

My target - sub 11 stone / 154lbs / 70kg however I'll be happy if I can get back to 11 stone 4 lbs again

EDIT: Corrected lbs figures as 11 stone is 154lbs NOT 164lbs, D'OH

Last time managed to loose weight like that, it was medically due to a hyper active thyroid! Seriously impressive, wish I could do it again, (having put it all back on ☹️)

I dropped the weight from walking a lot more (walking the dog back and forth to the park instead of driving there burned a suprising amount of energy), cutting out icecream and crisps aka chips, I also was virtually not eating anything for 2 weeks due to mental health issues making me completely disinterested in food which made the weight drop off, came off some mental health meds that are renowned for weight gain (though almost lost my mind entirely due to the withdrawal effects) and using the exercise bike that I saved from the tip/dump (just needed the drive belt edges cleaned up and the frayed bits removed from the rollers, worked fine since)

It wasn't a good year for me at all, losing the weight was the only plus and now finally getting somewhere with mental health help, though its still a battle and winter is total hell, too dark, too cold, too wet and I just go into hibernation mode completely due to the SAD.....

Checked my weight this morning, not as bad as I feared 11 stone 12lbs / 166 lbs / 75kg, got back using the exercise bike last night, did 34 minutes of vigorous cycling, fibro paying me back for it today though, just got to battle through it.

Congratulations on your weight less, landoffrozensheep. You sound like you'd have a BMI in the recommended range now, unless you're really short? :P

5'7 / 170.1cm so my BMI is ~26.1 so to get to recommended range I need to drop 7lbs to get me down to 11st 5lb
I carry weight in all the wrong places - my gut and my face particularly....unless I'm around 10 1/2 stone I look fat in the face (well thats my view on it) I once was away for 10 months and was really active and not ingesting many calories, dropped down to below 9stone 8lbs and my head looked too big for my body....lowest I've ever been is 7 stone 12lbs when I took a growth spurt at 14 and went from 5'1 and 9.5 stones to 5'7 and 7 stone 12lbs...I was REALLY skinny then....

However even at my heaviest I still had no backside to speak of, something that perenially is a source of amusement to my wife...inherited trait, my dad is as bad...backside like an ironing board...

5'7 / 170.1cm so my BMI is ~26.
A BMI of around 26 is something most people would be happy with, and it's fairly healthy too. Better to be slightly overweight than underweight. Apparently, slightly overweight people live longer than skinny people!

I guess you're only real worries are aesthetics ... which tend to be pretty subjective. What you think looks good, etc.

I also have IBS so I can be plagued with bloating, which isn't a good look, less I weigh the better I look, plus I've got slacks that a few kgs off would make them fit better...

I'm 5'7" too, working my way down, starting at 170+ lbs. Goal is to get back to 145 lbs. Good luck to us!

I reached my target weight a couple of years ago, having dropped about 20 pounds from 155 to 135 on my 5' 7" frame. That's the same as I weighed in 1990. The key to losing the weight was reducing the amount of carbs in our diet. We significantly reduced the amount of bread and cut out most rice, pasta, and potatoes. I've always been active, so continuing to walk, hike, backpack, and do heavy gardening chores plays a role.

Indeed good luck to us
I used to be around 140lbs in college, weight crept up to probably where I am now, worked in spain for 9 weeks and came back just under 140lbs and very tanned, I was sporting a strong tan till late november / mid december that year...

I'm also 5'7", about 165, I would be happy to get back to 155. I thinks that's my ideal weight

I lost 40 lbs/20 kilo. Most recent weigh-in was 230 lbs/112 kilo. Been a couple months since then though so how accurate that still is, I couldn’t tell you haha

I reached the weight that I wanted to be at a few years ago and have been in the zone ever since. It's a good feeling when you make it but even better when you see yourself maintaining it - and more importantly are happy with where you are at. I know I am lucky with the weight genes but, I also have to watch what I ate because I have a lot of other conditions that run in my family.

The years leading up to when I got married and then when my first kid was born was probably the heaviest that I have been but now I am slightly less than 10 lbs heavier from where I was when I graduated high school and the same pant size. I have to say that it's mostly because I don't eat out much, I am pretty active and I am always conscious of portion sizes. I also tend to over shop at the grocery store so there is always a ton of food in the fridge & freezer that I can't let go to waste so we always are cooking at home.

Best of luck and don't be discourage with the little bumps - just keep your eyes on the finish line!

I hear you. It's seriously butt ass cold in the Upper Midwest. As someone who didn't grow up in this area, I don't know if I will ever truly get use to it - especially since I've always been a beach person. But, life took me here and I figured out a way to embrace the cold. While I am a pretty avid swimmer in the summer, it gets really hard in the winter time to get keep up the routine more than a swim clinic here and there (I swear I don't know how my kids do it). Several years ago, I went and found a couple of winter sports that I can do to keep active and pull me through the winter months until we "Unthaw" . My recommendation is to change it up a bit with activities so you don't get bored with trying to do just one thing.

I'm up to 151 - 152 lbs. Planning on getting (& staying) below 147. But it's hard. I can't even look at any "extra" food. OJ for breakfast; salad/water for lunch, and then a dinner meal, but try to keep a minimum dessert - and NO snacking!!

I'm 180cm/5'11", was 87kg/190lb dropped to a scrawny 73kg/160lb and settled at a comfortable 77kg/170kg. My slow metabolism took a few months to kick in with exercise. My technique was/is to eat from the Aus CSIRO cookbook, or Donna Hay or equivalent healthy recipes, lots of greens, nothing fried, no desserts, no fruit juice or soft drink, do eat a healthy breakfast. For me it was 1/3 eating less, 1/3 eating differently, 1/3 sweaty exercise 3 times a week. The measure was to look and feel good in speedos, which I think I do. Keep at it LandofFrozenSheep!
