Speedo in Italy - Part 2

Post by CanSpeedo » Wed Sep 04, 2019 6:29 am

Hey!
So on this trip to Italy we just got to an area where I have family. The family is actually also from Montreal and we’re also here on vacation. I had originally brought a regular bathing suit (board shorts) to wear while with them and a square cut if I felt “daring”.

Well since travelling around and reading this forum I decided NO. I would wear my speedo. We got here today and the beach is just across the beach. It was just me, my wife, kid and my uncle. We crossed over and I just took my shorts off and was in my speedo.

Guess what!? Nothing. My uncle (who grew up here) said nothing. Didn’t even bat an eyelash.
We’ll see tomorrow when my cousin is around but I’ve officially decided I didn’t care.

Plus, my wife sent a few pictures to a group chat including my family. I’m sitting but clearly in a speedo if someone would pay attention. So far nobody noticed.

Sounds like you’re having a great trip. How long are you there, and where have you stayed?

When you’re at a beach in Italy, people have a more laid back attitude about their bodies. A speedo is just another swimsuit over there. Also there isn’t the body shaming, which goes on in the US.

We’re here for a total of 16 days. Not worried about italians on the beach. This is my Canadian family that’s also here.
Went to the beach again before supper and this time just put my tank top on and walked back across the street in my speedo!

Nice! When I’ve gone to Sicily, sometimes I’ll walk back to the hotel in just a speedo and shirt too. It’s not uncommon to see other guys do the same.
Enjoy the rest of your trip!

When I went and talk about going, I preempted friends and family and would say - "when in Rome" and mentioned that I wore them. Although it was mostly afterwards. I looked at it as a ice breaker or the fact of socialization among friends and family. The last time I went to visit was a few years ago and now it's gotten to the point now that even my close friend all know that I wear them when I feel like it.

My relatives over there probably wouldn't say anything if I broke them out at the beach and I have seen recent photos of their little kids at the beach wearing them but I haven't seen any of them (adults) in beach photos. But knowing their personalities, it could go either way. I could see them in more square cut than briefs.

Glad to hear that!!!

Don't mind other people, wear your swim briefs with confidence and pride. Usually if they have anything negative to say it is their own insecurities coming out.

I did wear them and no one had anything to say. Like we often read, a big part is in our heads too.

Now back home and it’s starting to get too cold so speedos will only be for the hot tub.

Glad to hear you had a great trip and you were able to wear your speedos openly and freely! TI think that's really what we all would like! I'm getting ready in a few weeks to head out on vacation to a warmer climate and will be packing a couple pairs....looking forward to it!
