How do you take care of your speedo?

Post by GermanSpeedoGuy » Mon Jul 15, 2019 12:47 pm

I mostly just rinse it in water after my swim but I heard that you should alsouse some white vinegar.
Do you have any tips or something that you do to extend the life of your suit?

I wash them with soap and water while in the shower after swimming then I spin them in the swimsuit spinner to get rid of the excess water then I just lay it on top of my gym bag to dry.

Yeah, I think the main thing is to just rinse them straight after swimming. I haven't heard of the vinegar thing and am not sure what that would do. I throw mine in the washing machine occasionally - probably a no-no, but they seem to have survived!

Any special soap or just the soap I use to wash my hands with?

I still mine in cold clean water then lay them on a towel and roll them up. Then when I get home if it’s winter I put them over a curtain rail or in the summer in the shade on the clothes line.

Just hand soap/body wash.

I hand wash them in cool water using "Speedo swim suit cleaner" "Woolite" or a soap specifically designed for swimwear such as "swim and sport" or "summer solutions" and then hang dry them.

All I do after a swim is rinse them while showering (I guess a little soap splashes on them while I scrub up  ) then spin-dry in the Swimate drying machine, and hang them up to dry at home, if they're not dry already. Otherwise they get jostled around in my gym bag until it's time to wear 'em again.

In uni I'd rinse them off in the change room shower then hang them from the handle in my VW bug. If it was sunny they'd dry quick enough even in winter when it was waaay below freezing.

I don’t really look after them. I wear them home to dry or I hang them out when I get home.

I wash them with Woolite, by hand. Rinse, and hang them outside to dry. I know. Why take such good care only to subject them to the Sun. It's only once a week, and about half an hour in the Sun.

So, um, it's basically quick rinse and dry for everyone? Nothing special? The chlorine doesn't stay in the fabric? (I guess that's what the cold water rinse is for?) I don't really like the idea of soap on my speedos. Will it come out all right?

After swimming shower in them, the warm water will get rid of the chlorine. You will still be able to smell the chlorine but I wouldn’t worry about it. I have Speedos I went swimming in and those are ok. I wrap mine in a towel because there isn’t a swimsuit spinner at my local leisure centre. But as soon as I get home straight on the washing line to drip dry.

I rinse in cold water if poss. then spin in the machine at the pool. Then stick 'em in the airing cupboard at home. When I remember to wash them I use soap flakes and hand wash- religiously if they're nylon/lycra- sometimes with polyester suits I get a bit lazy and stick them in the machine on setting 30.
I never dry them outside when I was a teen my amazing purple 1" Speedo's got bleached almost white on the washing line by the sun. Cheers Mum!
I also try to wear certain suits at certain pools. If I know it's chlorin-y then it's a poly suit like Speedo Endurance all the way.
Real men wear Speedo's
