OK, here's the attitude we're up against. Perhaps even a more extreme version, but this is the younger generation. Some thoughts, though:

• Why is he so disturbed by speedos that he has to post an angry video? Most others would just snicker and then forget about it.

•Is his extreme anger masking something? He rants about not wanting to see mens' junk. Perhaps he is in denial. Most people that don't want to see mens' junk just don't stare. What compels him to focus on mens' junk to the point where he has to post an angry video about it?

•Perhaps he is forcing anger into the issue because he's confused. Maybe he is bi-curious. Or even full on gay. But most importantly...

•Who the fuck is he to be dictating what the fuck anyone can wear? Who made him fucking king of the world? A world of untanned thighs from mandatory boardshorts wearing.

Perhaps he does find them somewhat of a turn on and that’s what he is uncomfortable with.
To ban the speedo is ridiculous.
I could see the ban being introduced in some states in America (the Bible Belt for example).
Here in the UK a theme park called Alton Towers have banned Speedos in the water park complex.
It is getting pathetic. I would love to build my own water park and make it Speedos only.

People in America seem to associate speedos with some sort of sexual promiscuity, it's bizarre beyond belief. Too many bible thumping weirdos?

It’s always hilarious to me when a vehemently anti-gay politician gets outed as being gay. A few years ago here in the states there was a conservative US Senator named Larry Craig who was very vocally anti-gay and he got busted in a sting operation soliciting sex in an airport bathroom.

Exactly. I was thinking the same thing about the same politician. And many others. Lots of preachers, too. Seems the louder they are with their anti-homosexual stance, they more likely they are to be closeted gay.

I don't think every anti-gay politician or preacher is secretly gay. For example, there have been conservative women opposed to gay rights legislation. Sometimes it's just ignorance or fear of the unknown, a desire for security in an unpredictable world.

As for anti-gay public figures who are later revealed to be gay, as a gay man, I actually feel sorry for these men - they must have been really confused and struggling with their identities. Some of them must be quite tortured trying to balance their two separate selves - a public self and a private self - that don't really go together. So, yeah, I have compassion even for people with homophobic views. Let's face it - sexuality is really complex. For some people, it might even be fluid. I was never homophobic, but I was raised Christian and took a ridiculously long time really to make sense of my own feelings ...

Unless you have been very actively involved in the sport of competitive swimming, in which the brief style suit is and always has been your team uniform.
And "speedo" is misused to include thongs, posing briefs, etc and whatever some might think of as gay and disgusting minimal attire.
So whenever we use the word "speedo" we should be strictly referring to a certain brand of brief swimsuit that is perfectly acceptable for wear at a public pool or beach. When we are talking about any kind of garment that is being used to show off our cocks and balls and the details about them we should call them something other than speedos.
But it's too late. Speedos = Gay. That is the public perception. Nothing we can do about it. So we'll keep perpetuating that line of thought.

All good points. I get the feeling that the chap in video, however, is objecting to being confronted with maleness, the male body, the male genitals, etc, in such a stark way. Speedos are just a convenient example - one of the few ways he'll ever come face-to-face with such strong evidence of maleness, unless he goes to a nude beach or something.

I think the video says more about youthful American discomfort with the unclad male than about speedos. Speedos are the smoking gun, but the bullet is the sexual aspects of maleness. Male sexuality - scary to dudes as well as chicks maybe? Speedos aren't intrinsically gay (we've seen this discussion before). But they are POTENTIALLY homoerotic in some people's minds. Maybe they make some people IMAGINE males being sexual? I guess this chap sees a random pair of skimpy male bathers and thinks "penis, penis, penis."

The "gay" connotation would be stronger in places where speedos aren't the norm for swimwear i.e. the States.

Yet they let girls in bikinis and thongs.
