Recommendations on NYC Gyms?

Does anyone have any recommendations for gyms in NYC?

Looking to join a gym that has a pool, is speedo-friendly, and isn't TOO expensive (less than $40/month). Hoping for something either walking distance or short subway ride from Astor Place. Thank you :)

I’m not in nyc, but If you go to a gym to swim laps, nobody will comment on your speedo at all. Since I started swimming lap (I’m not that good yet), I have always been wearing a speedo at the gym pools in different cities. Never had a problem. You just go for it because that’s the legitimate sportswear.

The 92nd street Y has a nice 25 yard pool. I used to go there often when I was still living in NYC. A little crowded sometimes. There’s also the pool at Chelsea pier, the Gertrude Eberle rec center in the (far) west 60s. If you don’t mind leaving Manhattan the aquatic center in Queens is pretty good.

Thanks for the recs! I'll check out 92nd street Y and let you know.
