What experience have guys on here had with pools that are also cruise spots?

Are there many in your city? Whats some ways guys or youve tried picking up? What effects do speedos have?

I don't know any pools that are cruise spots personally. I imagine cruising happens occasionally at all pools.

If you go to a pool in a gay neighbourhood, gay guys might go swimming there. Whether they cruise or not is debatable.

I imagine a nice body in speedos would make any male more worth looking at. Just my two cents.

I don’t know of any pools by me that is a cruising spot of any type.
It would not be appropriate as the public pools also have families attending.
As Bluefinch said you would need a pool in a gay area of a town or city or even a swingers club on a gay night.
The other alternative would be to join a swimming club for gay men or women.

Where are you? I've definitely been cruised at pools in Sydney, and (*blushes*) cruised a few guys as well. At risk of sounding like a slut (it's all about perspective boys)...

I've hooked-up in the locker at the North Sydney Olympic pool. It's a pretty open shower and change room, but it was early in the morning and you can hear people coming. Most of the time this place is pretty busy though. Also, I've hooked-up a few times in the change rooms at the UNSW pool. Mostly later at night, but also quiet times on the weekends. Speedos definitely help.

I suppose if you shower with the door open (assuming showers have doors) and a guy watches you, he's technically "cruising" you.

But it's one of those bloody complicated things - you don't want to make anyone uncomfortable. You certainly don't want to cruise someone who doesn't want to be cruised. Some guys, especially young guys, are just dopey or confused or curious - they might be cruising without realising it. (They haven't fully processed their attraction to males yet).

Gay/bi men who have come to terms with their desires, and have some experience interacting with like-minded guys, are eventually able to almost "sense" who's interested or not. It's a vibe. You can read the man's energy - he doesn't need to do anything sexual.

Once a guy strolled into some toilets where I was. I didn't even have to look at him - he had a presence, a charisma. He was giving off this powerful energy. All he wanted to do was jerk off for an audience (me and this old guy in the corner). But I knew that he was "on the prowl" even before he unzipped his pants. It's just a strange vibe. Hard to explain if you haven't experienced it. Straight men find it very creepy. Straight men sometimes pick up on it before gay guys do!

I don’t think that people around where I live know what cruising is.

Having gone to grad school in the PNW, and visited conservative areas, I can only agree. Though they're gone now, I had family in Eastern Oregon and Idaho. If there was a gay subculture, I never saw it, or even knew what it was back then.

It’s rare to see obviously gay people where I’m at. There were two men sitting in the hot tub at the athletic club next to each other with their legs intertwined, which is pretty obvious and occasionally I’ve seen men holding hands at the mall but that’s about it.

I went to school with a girl who is married to her female companion 15 years. She is moving back and building a house next to her parents. I’m thinking it’s going to be a bit of a shock to some in our little community.

Not sure how long it's been since you've been in the PNW, but the major metropolitan areas of Seattle/Tacoma and their surroundings are very "out and open" and have a fairly large LGBTQ population.

A lot of men who cruise aren't obviously guy, but straight and bi men, or men deeply in closet. Often, they act and dress as conservative as the next guy.

I've seen this happen a couple times. The gym I go to has glass doors on each stall, total of 7 shower stalls. It's kind of impossible to say, "Oh, I just leave it open", because it's almost obstructive to keep it open. One older guy in his late 40s-50s was showering it wide open, but he was facing the faucet. The second guy I saw looked to be mid-20s, and he was giving a full monty/side view to whomever walked by, in addition, the stall he chose was the one stall that faces the lockers. Cheeky jackass that guy was. I wouldn't think anyone would attempt to cruise since this gym is no where near a 'gay area'.

It was a very long time ago, early seventies, primarily in Eugene, OR and occasional visits to Portland and central Oregon. Idaho, and the Oregon coast. I'm sure it's totally different now in the metro areas. Funny though, despite all the time that's gone by, I still have a fairly clear memory of the places. Compared to Boston, where I come from, it was an alternate universe.

Yeah, I wonder if some guys sort of show off unconsciously, like the cheeky guy here. It's not cruising per se - more like exhibitionism - giving everyone a show. He may not want sex. Probably just gets a buzz from showing off!

Definitely! Being a show-off and cruising for a hand job are totally different. And there are lots of people at my gym that are clearly into showing off. Have you been on Instagram lately? There is a whole generation whose validation system relies on getting likes for their pics, and they don't care if they come from guys or girls or their sexual orientation. I personally get a kick out of guys checking me out at the pool, beach or in the change room, and as long as they aren't creepy about it I don't mind their gaze. Likewise, I check out the hotties that are lingering in their underwear or towel, or walk around naked. There are a few guys at my gym that leave their shower doors open and jack off. They don't want to get intimate with you, but want you to see them jerk it and cum. Can be hot!

Wow Speedostud, I think I'd like to check out your gym. You're in Vancouver BC? Which pool do you go to? I get over there now and then. I think I've been to most of them, Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam. Let's go swimming!?
