I was wondering if any of the forum members ever go to a lido (outdoor pool).
What do you wear?

The nearest one to me is in Droitwich Spa (Worcestershire).
I keep meaning to go but never get round to it plus can’t get anyone to come with me. Lol.

I have started going to the open-air pool at London Fields, Hackney. It is heated and open all year round. It is 50m long and mostly given over to lane swimming so attracts some serious swimmers, and there is a high proportion of Speedo wearers.

There's also a saltwater pool at Brixham in Devon that I go to when I am down that way in the Summer (it opens June - early September).

G'day guys,

When I was in London back in September I swam most mornings at the Lido in Herne Hill. What an amazing place. Everyone there was lap swimming so lots of speedos and no big deal at all. Might be different on the weekends but during the work week it was people exercising.

It didn't take long for me to figure out that the Lido was pretty busy at 7am, I'm assuming with people swimming before work, but by 9 or 10am it was much quieter so that was when I'd go.

That's my experience of London Fields too. Busy in the mornings and evenings with pre-and post-work swimmers (and also a lunchtime spike), but 10-12 and 2-4 are much quieter. Weekends is much more spread-out.

Apparently they will be open Boxing Day (edit - they will, from 10-12) - I bet that will be popular!

When I've ventured to London I've always made a trip to London Fields Lido, a beautiful pool.

There's a Lido here in South Wales that's only open between March and September, I try to go there as much as I can when I'm not working - I very nearly caught a Speedo tan this year but didn't quite go enough! Bah! Maybe next year.

There's a spectacular one in Plymouth, right below the Hoe. Although it looks like a sun-trap it is bloody windy. Another good one I've been to at Gourock on the River Clyde. Both are salt water pools and I can't stick around in them long because I swallow too much water, they're more saline than the sea and a pint of beer tastes very strange after!
I would reccommend them both though. Also Hathersage in the Peak District near Sheffield is good.
In answer to what I wear Speedo's except when it's winter swimming. Then it's swimming wetsuits and strip down to my budgy smugglers when/ if I work up a sweat. I can remember it being Speedo's on 1st December last year for me. Dunno if I actually like swim wetsuits, they look sexy on other people and the very small amount of bouyancy completley changes my position in the water, so they are hard to get on with, plus they are generally cut for front crawl not breaststroke.
