London Speedo Update

G'day guys,

After a bit of a cluster of a trip over I finally made it to the house last night, I was pretty buggered but slept a little and slept well last night so hopefully no real jet lag effects.

I was up early this morning to let some builders into the house I’m house sitting and once I got them settled I went to the local pool for a swim which was great!!! A little crowded but a good crew. It is the Brockwell Lido (can someone tell me what a Lido is?) and it is a proper 50m pool. I saw a few speedos and since the only people there were swimmers I had no problems dropping my dork shorts and my jammers down to my red AussieBum speedos.

I didn’t see anyone else wearing red speedos but maybe half of the guys were wearing speedos. The usual riff-raff wearing dork shorts while lap swimming which is stupid but to be expected every where on the planet these days.

Since I had forgotten my towel, when I was done swimming (2K’s with a few breaks because of slower swimmers in my lane). My stuff was at the deep end of the pool so I got out feeling great, showered at the outdoor shower then sat down not far from the pool to dry off in the sun. While I was taking the obligatory ‘selfie’ I noticed this hot guy slide out of the pool and sit on the edge. He was probably in his 30’s, tall, nice build and wearing black Speedo Endurance speedos (they are noticeable because of the word ‘Endurance’ stitched high on the back left.

The guy seemed very comfortable in his speedos, he didn’t have a complete shorts tan so he must swim a little bit, he sat on the edge for a while and when he got out of the pool he was confident striding around in his speedos.

I don’t like taking photos of people unsuspectingly (just not cool) but when I got home I noticed that one of my photos has this guy in it……. if this is you, please say g’day!!!

Not me, but it's really refreshing to see that there are guys who stroll around confidently in their speedos.

We should all take a tip from that gentleman!!!

A lido is just British english for an outdoor pool. It's one of those loan-words from another language that has evolved from it's original meaning. In Italian it just means beach or shore. Oddly the beachfronts never get called Lido's here, in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Devon they often get called Strands, which I think is Dutch for beach, so...

Is the black Speedo Endurance dude the guy on the far right leaning back?

"stroll around comfortably in their speedos."
Of course. We're swimmers. In proper uniform. At a lap pool. We do it every day. Since we were kids. Anything else would feel stupid.
Enjoy London. There is one hell of a lot to do and see there! It's an absolute trip.

This is correct. Lido is from the names of various Italian seaside resorts (Lido di Venezia). And Strand is the Dutch word for beach. Also that pool looks really nice.

Funfact: Strand is also german for beach.
Dutch and german have many similarities...
