With all of the compression wear and superhero movies that are out there, do you think we are at a golden age of spandex for men? I think the 80's were really the golden age of spandex, but I think spandex and speedos alike are making a comeback. I don't think speedos are in fashion like the were in the 70's and early 80's, but I feel like there is way more acceptance than there was from just a few years ago.

I think in Australia Funky Trunks a few years ago took off, but now Budgy Smuggler has gone off and are big. Its an Aussie brand to be seen in, they're trendy, fit people always look good in them but they also really promote people that wouldn't normally wear them, like with their "Australias most ordinary rig" campaign.

Entrants will be judged...... on strictly some criteria:

- Should look like they could have been good at sport at some point in their life, although were most likely prevented via injury or robbed by selectors early in their career.

- Must be capable of launching a child from their shoulders several metres in a swimming pool.

- Should look like they can still run for a taxi and swing an axe

- Bonus points for likes/shares on social media as well as a description of the exceptional ordinaryness of the person pictured.

*A six-pack is an automatic disqualification.

You're right, spandex has made a comeback. Women can be seen in it for everyday-wear, not just the gym--even older women. I see men wearing compression stuff at the gym more, but not on the street. Skinny jean fabrics are all stretchy now, and even chinos and khakis. I think they fit better. Compression stuff prices for men have come down. Way less expensive now at the Adidas and Nike stores at the local outlet mall. No speedos though.

For a short time in the seventies, Levis made stretch fabric jeans for men that had some spandex in them.. I thought they were amazing. I was the only one I knew who bought them. And then they pretty much disappeared, until now.

I have both Funky Trunks and Buddy Smuggler briefs and they are fantastic. A bit pricy with the p+p but worth it.
I have also noticed that not only men are wearing speedos and square cut trunks now but lads in my nieces swimming lesson are wearing them too and teens in the pool.

At a regional swimming race meeting tonight and this this is quite literally what I hear a probably 14yo beside me say.

"There are speedos that are really long, but I like the speedos that are like footy shorts. All the cool kids wear Budgy Smuggler though." Then they got on to the budgy website on one of their phones.

Perhaps there will be a revival!

I’ve been thinking of buying Budgy Smugglers. Do you have any comments on sizing or fit?

It appears that they only come in one style of cut. Is that correct?

You can only get them in a brief style. The sizing I have found is true to size unlike Turbo. They have plenty of designs.
They are really comfy wether you are swimming or just lazing around in them.
I have worn these a couple of time for swimming (under shorts).
I want another pair but the cost of shipping puts me off.
There is a uk website now but the designs are not a varied as the Australian site.
