I don't know why this topic never crossed my mind to talk to you guys about. I've been dancing my whole life, I do hiphop, ballet, and a bit of salsa. recently I got a taste of tango. I really like dancing, it's a really great way to express your emotion and workout at the same time.
what about you guys? do any of you dance? if so, what kind?

No son, I have 2 left feet. Lol.
Dancing is something that has never really appealed to me.
I never dance at family functions either. Just don't like it.

The only dancing I've learned formally is ballroom. My parents sent me to classes for three years when I was in my early teens. This was all in preparation for cotillions (formal balls). Except in places like Manhattan or San Francisco, I don't think such things exist anymore. I learned fox trot, chacha, and waltz. We also learned some kind of rock and roll step that I'm sure people don't do anymore. I'd like to learn to tango and quick step. I can freestyle dance, sort of, when I lose my inhibiitions. When I first moved to Florida, I went to clubs. I haven't done that or ballroom in years, except at a couple of fancy weddings.
Oh, I almost forgot, I used to go to Scandinavian hops when I was in college--polkas and schottisches. Those are gone too. You could really get moving. I loved those. Also, in elementary school, my folks sent me to Western square dancing classes. They were fun. I even learned the calls for an entire square dance and called it for the class--at age nine. Hmmm, they must do square dancing still somewhere around here. I'd put on my Levis 501 jeans and cowboy boots. (There's nothing like a cowboy outfit to get your testosterone going.)
And the funny thing is, I don't think of myself as much of a dancer, really.

omg why do you think you're not a dancer? you totally are! you should dance again Thom. That Scandinavian dances are really interesting. you know square dancing reminds me of ceilidh dance (the scottish dance) and I think it's a great kind of dance. it's so free and looks unstructured which makes it fun and liberating. unlike ballet where you pay attention to every muscle in your body.

Ballet is so exacting. No wonder you are so lean and strong. My sister took ballet for several years. Just for fun, I'd do some of the positions with her. You've sparked by interest rozelle. I should do something again. Maybe learn the tango. There was a dance studio not too far from my house, but it recently became a martial arts dojo.

I do like a ceilidh, perhaps more structured than you think, but a very good workout though! Not much good at anything `freestyle'.

oh don't worry I'm young and I'm just as boring! I go to clubs probably twice a month and I don't really drink (which is something my partner constantly complain about) so don't worry you're good!

it is very exact yes. you have to pay attention to your back, hands, legs, the turnout of the legs, head, chest, basically everything lol but it's so graceful too so it balances out. and yes! try tango. it's not for me but maybe for you

Square dancing based on Scottish ceilidh dancing which the Scots and the Scots Irish took to America. Not much cop at dancing generally but can hold my own at ceilidh
I didn't know that! good to know. when I see the Scots dance all I can think of is what lies underneath lol I'm such a perv sorry. it's so intriguing tho1 both the dance and the something else. I have always been fascinated by kilts. it looks awesome

Never seen the fun in being a true Scotsman. Kilts are far too itchy scratchy!

Easy to scratch your balls.
Actually getting your hands under all the yards of cloth isn’t that easy. I like my kilt but it’s briefs or speedos under it every time!

I don’t dance at all but I’ve always been interested in tights and dance belts (dovetailing with my interest in speedos/lycra), though I’ve never pulled the trigger. Do either of you wear dance belts? Are they actually comfortable?

yes I wear dance belt. I would say they are pretty comfortable. I wear the thong one because I think it allows more movement. it's one of those thing that you set and forget. I don't sit around thinking about the fact that I'm wearing a thong when I practice.
I think guys are not comfortable with the IDEA of wearing something like that. but once you put it on it's actually not that big of a deal. plus when you're practicing or you're in a ballet class everyone is in tights, both men and women, so you quickly forget about it. and I mean people who are in ballet class should be comfortable with tights and bulges and other things showing so I don't think people will complain or say something therefore the thoughts of it get pushed down even more.
maybe you can buy one and wear it to the gym just to get the taste of it. a little experimenting you know

check out the one from Sansha it's not as expensive as the ones from Capezio or Wear Moi. I believe Sansha's selling it for like $13 or $15 on their website.

I would not go to class without a dance belt.My instructors would be on me for going commando. The only time I ever did that was when my instructor removed it in a private practice. The only time I've used capezio is when my Mom would buy them when I was 9-11.I now use thong back because it shows off my nice ass.
Let's see that nice ass! ;P
