Anyone visited Martinique. Speedo-friendly? Can you get by with English?

It's an absolutely spectacular lush French island. You'll have no problems or will get any weird looks in speedo type swimwear. It's very Euro there and they can be pretty snobby to Ameris.
You'll really look like a typical Ameri guy if you're wearing long baggy board shorts. Get a speedo type suit... you'll fit in quite well.

That is the most wonderful piece travel advice I've ever read! Ranks right up there with having to be aware that board shorts are banned and speedos are mandatory when swimming in public pools in France. A visit to Martinique immediately gets added to my Bucket List.

Many thanks!! I speak just enough French to get by, and I've been told I have an okay accent, so that can disarm the snobs a bit. Even when I was a teenager, my French got by when I visited France. And there must be resorts that are welcoming to Americans in Martinique. Also, I have a large speedo collection. I noticed the airfares from Miami to Martinique are kind of expensive.
