Great Article About Speedos/Budgie Smugglers

I found this article to be great. Now if only it could be applied by a huge majority. The American concept of swim wear is awful.

Here's the link: http://www.executivestyle.com.au/budgie ... 30yxz#poll

My favourite paragraph in the article: “Boardshorts are curtains of shame, as far I'm concerned,” says Linforth, who admittedly has some skin in this particular game – pardon the bad pun. “Seeing guys swim in them is like seeing a guy wear jeans to the gym – there's something just not right.”

That is the way I feel, as well. I wear speedos to the beaches in Chicago all the time, even got a friend of mine to lose the boardshorts. He always rolled them up as far as they would go to tan, and I would just lay down. He finally started wearing them, after trying mine at my apartment a few times. And I must say, he looked damn good in them.

Bwa ha ha... I HATE that! It always cracks me up that guys would do that. Why wear the god damned long trunks if you would like to expose more of your legs to the sun?? So fucking ridiculous. I do think guys are starting to realize how stupid it is, though. I'm seeing more and more swimsuit options with shorter and shorter inseams starting to show up in mainstream retail ads. Men's bathing suits are slowly getting shorter again, guys. Thank GOD!

Quote from the article:

"He thinks that the prevalence of “boardies” on Australian beaches is a mixture of American culture and a remnant of those shy formative years that all boys tend to suffer through."

Mixture... naw. It's 100% misguided desire to fit into American culture. And maybe a bit of anglo-centric unease with the male form, which modern American culture has foisted upon areas of the world where speedos have always been prevalent.

There are two pictures in that awesome article. Just look at how ridiculous the dudes in the second picture look in their knee-length board shorts as opposed to the Budgie Smuggler wearing dudes in the first picture. By the way, I would not choose to wear Budgie Smugglers on the beach myself. They're just not cut skimpy enough for my tastes.

Wow great article! I agree boardshorts are curtains of shame, they are literally half pants. If you took jeans and cut them right off at the knee you would get boardshorts. With that said living in a beach town I'm seeing younger maybe college aged guys wearing trunks that are above the knee more and more... see less boardshorts which could be a sign suits are getting small for guys. I was in H&M yesterday with my sister and I went to look at the swimwear... sadly they don't sell the two speedos they use to sell several summers ago, but I did notice they only had trunks above the knee and boxer length trunks as short as boxer undies. They didn't even sell boardshorts which they use to. So maybe we are moving in the right direction.

Also I was thinking that the only place I see guys wearing speedos here is at the nude beach... I think if we want more guys to wear them then more guys need to wear them off the nude beach. I've asked friends why they don't wear speedos on other beaches and they tell me... they could never do it, etc.

I was preparing to go on a trip to the south last April and needed to get a suit for the beach. I looked for a pair of shorts with pockets to wear while walking on the streets of West Palm Beach and all I could find were board shorts, Trying on a few pairs at Kohl's, I looked ridiculous. Being a rather short person, the shorts covered me down past the knees and I felt that all I needed were a pair of clown shoes to complete the look. I much rather prefer the shorts to end above the knee and it is hard to find anything other than running shorts that look good on me. I didn't buy anything and decided that I would wear my running shorts with Aussiebum nylon underneath.

Unfortunately, even * I * own a pair of boardshorts. There are just times and places where a Speedo or other tiny suit is just not appropriate ... like my bosses pool party. Making the best of this, I actually found a nice pair of stylin' black and gray Body Glove shorts ... light material, not too baggy and ends above the knees. They ride low and are a little snug across the behind, and I still show a nice bulge in the front. Perfect for wearing over a Speedo (because I always have one underneath) and there is even a pocket for my phone! Sometimes you just gotta go with the flow and make the most out of it, you know what I mean?

It's just too bad. I see so many healthy, trim bodies at the beach which would be perfect for a Speedo, or even worst, sadly watch people almost drowning as they are doing what they call 'laps' being and dragged down as I am gliding past them in a tiny suit. And then, imagining the tan lines as they sit and lay out in the sun! I can't fathom having partially tanned legs ... never did, never will.

“Well … there's nothing wrong with them. Just ...”
That's pretty much the response I go when I went swimming with someone I'm no longer mates with who had problems with me wearing a pair of jammers to a family pool during an evening general swim, him preferring the bellow the knee dork shorts. Funny enough I wasn't wearing them to a indoor pool to impress him or any anyone else, just they were far more practical to swim in.

Rolling the shorts up is just the silliest thing in my opinion. If they want the better tan, just wear the speedo, and then maybe they can wear shorts when they walk back to the car. Clearly the speedo tan is what they want anyhow.

You haven't lived until you've gone skinny dipping at the office party.
