People in the media wearing speedos... the more we'll know people wear speedos of all body shapes and sizes... the more speedos become normal and socially acceptable swimwear.

I don't get how they carry on about how these people are wearing speedos like it is something special. It's not like they're naked and swinging off a pole while mid routine in a smoky Thai night club.

You would think that swimmers live a porn star life.

... or maybe we do!

BTW, Packer looks a whole lot better with a 6pack than a keg.

Woah... Agent Smith! Not surprised about Hugo Weaving wearing a speedo - he is Australian after all. Kudos to him for still wearing one at his age.

I'm glad also to see Jerry O'Connel still wearing a speedo. Glad that he wasn't a speedo guy just for the sake of that TV show he recently starred in where his character wore a speedo. And I'm also very glad that he's taking full advantage of being married to one of the hottest bikini wearing supermodels of all time and not wasting the opportunity by wearing long baggy swim pants. Maximum skin exposure with that couple! Love it!

This helps the public's opinion of speedo use by real guys that they follow and admire. My own use of the speedo is all about proper swimming and yes, okay, I kinda like to show off my bod a little, LOL. I think what has mostly hurt the speedo's acceptance is that it might be confused with skimpier so-called swimwear used as the uniform of choice in public gay activities. Calling a competition swim brief a banana hammock is evidence of this. Not that I don't admire a fine male specimen wearing one regardless of his orientation, I'm just saying the public may not be aware of what a speedo is really for, and get prejudiced about it. I'm really not sure why anybody would not enjoy seeing a fine body in minimal attire, be they male or female. Must be jealousy turned to hatred. And some homophobia, how stupid.

Yeah the comments where pretty harsh about Hugo Weaving wearing a speedo... I have to learn not to read comments on these sites. I think everyone's body is beautiful in its own way and saw nothing wrong with him wearing a speedo.

Jerry O'Connel has been wearing speedos for years even before doing that TV show. I saw an interview with his wife in which she is proud her husband wears speedos.

People still find guys in speedos taboo so it makes the "news" I bet Europeans are laughing at us Americans all the way home.

Swimming as a sport is not as popular as other sports so people don't really understand what speedos are really for. Who cares if you want to show off... if you feel good about yourself then why not? Also you're right there is a little homophobia... even if people are accepting of LGBT people they may have internalized homophobia they may not recognize as being homophobic...such as shaming guys into wearing boardshorts.

More than just the Euro's, swim in a pool in Australia and there is a lot of lycra going on too.

Again, in the US speedos are perfectly acceptable and common in the sport of swimming. Maybe the sport of beer drinking at the local beach requires a different uniform, I don't know. But as a daily fitness swimmer, Masters competitor, swim dad, swimming official on deck at numerous USAS events I am here to tell you that speedos are very popular among SWIMMERS of all ages. Said SWIMMERS are not hung about it, and everybody involved in the sport as parents, coaches, officials, even spectators are accustomed to seeing it all and they are not hung up either.
