Speedos on Copacabana

Hey guys,

I was just writing a blog post (http://www.AussieSpeedoGuy.org) and I was wondering how common speedos are on Copacabana Beach in Brazil?

I'm sure it is pretty touristy so I wonder if there are guys embracing the speedo culture or if it is just a bunch of tourists in dork shorts? Are there other more 'local' beaches nearby? I personally think Bondi is a cluster f of a beach, compared to the beaches up north which are just perfect and not full of tourists.

Keen to hear from anyone who has been over to Brazil.

Dave,

When I went to Rio, I stuck to Ipanema beach. LOTS of guys in the classic Brazilian 'sungas' (square-cuts). Fewer in the speedo-style briefs. The only people wearing dork shorts were obviously tourists, and they were greatly outnumbered by locals. I didn't feel that Ipanema was particularly "touristy." That's the great thing about the beach in Rio: everyone in the city goes. It's a microcosm of Brazilian democracy. Be sure to read up on beach etiquette if you go. Brazilian men never lie down on towels.

Why is that, is it a sign of being feminine? Im not trying to troll, I am just curious as to why it is so?

Brazilian men never lie down on towels.
Is considered a social no-no to them. Also the women do not lie on beach towels, they use sarongs. Just some of the beach rules that are standard for them.
