Dealing with haters

Hey guys. I've been searching through the topics for suggestions on how to deal with haters/harassment/people staring/talking shit. I haven't found anything.
I have worn them at an adults only all inclusive resort, in South Florida, on a cruise (strickly when laying out)and at my girlfriend's old apartment. The first two places speedos were somewhat common to see. The other two not so much.
I have yet to really run into any issues (just the odd looks and I'm sure talk amongst the other groups of people).
However, I am planning a trip to golf coast of Florida in the coming months and have visions of moms or dads or probably worst of all teenagers giving me a hard time and trying to force their ideas or "values" on me.
Just looking for any advice on how to best deal with these types of people.

First off I think you look great in that square cut swimsuit. I wouldn't worry to much about it. I've worn speedos, conservative all the way to thong cuts. If people give you a hard time it's an insecurity with them. I've worn them at the beach, pools, vacation, hiking, water park, basically anywhere a swimsuit is needed. Sure people have said things but I don't let societies standards bother me I am who I am. It's how I express myself. It's very rare that anyone says anything I think in all the times anyone has said anything was maybe about three times in total. The first being these macho frat guys on the beach. They saw me in my Ergowear Jasz bikini. One of them tried taking a picture of me when I was walking up the stairs back to my car parked on the street. My sister noticed and let them have it lol. The second was when I wore my 2n daredevil these two collage guys started laughing and making remarks. Yet again I was with my sister and she went over to talk to them. In the end they apologized. The third time I was in Huntington Beach, Ca with my aunt, uncle, sister, and cousin. My aunt and my cousin, and I were walking on the boardwalk and this guy shouts at me and says we are not in Europe. Then that same day these teenage girls tried to take a video of me. There will always be awful people in the world but I won't let them dictate how I live my life. If I did that would allow them to win.

I will say that it's becoming more common for guys to wear trunks above the knees and most of the world already wears speedos as a normal part of society. Example, a popular YouTube personality went to France and he didn't bring a swimsuit so he had to by one there and so he bought a square cut. He thought the square cut was skimpy but it really wasn't... He was walking around the beach town in France and someone told him walking around shirtless was a ticket but wearing the speedo was okay. Everyone views these social norms differently, in the end you have todo what makes you happy.

Feel like wearing a thong swimsuit do it, feel like hiking in a speedo do it, feel like wearing a square cut do it. Do you!

I assume you meant the gulf coast, not the golf coast, which, where I live could arguably be called, being only 20 minutes from Sawgrass TPC in Northeast Florida. I've been on a cruise, North Florida beaches, an adults only resort, and to my condo community pool, and always wear a speedo. I haven't noticed any haters. Oddly, while I cover up with a really short pair of Andrew Christian swim trunks on the way to the beach is the only time I've noticed any stern looks from guys. But, it's not my problem. I've actually had a few women thank me for wearing speedos.

I always bring a big jug of tap water to wash the salt and sand off myself before getting in my car to leave the beach. Last week when I went surfing, I ended up with a lot of sand in my suit. So afterwards, I'm standing there in the parking lot across from the beach, laces undone, and speedo waistband pulled away, pouring water in to wash the sand out obviously. I glance over, and despite my being with my wife and her friend, this young woman across the parking lot is looking me over like she's enjoying a striptease. Or maybe she thought I was trying to be funny.

My point being, don't worry about it since you can't read someone's mind. And if they feel strongly enough to say something to you or stare, either take it as a compliment, or stare back. I've found either they do, or they don't, want to be stared at by a guy in a speedo; there is no in-between. And they will act accordingly.

If you don't wear it, you'll probably regret it. Don't psych yourself out over people you've never met and will never see again. The gulf is packed with tourists, and being one of them, you have just as much right to be there as they do. Enjoy it!

I spend a week on the beaches of Naples, Ft. Myers and Sanibel Island every July and I've never experienced any issues. I've worn black, blue and a green "speedos" and I've even seen teens wear Speedos while with their friends and family.

One teen stands out in my memory from last year. He must have been 14 -16 years old he was staying with family in the condos next door. On my last day there in Ft. Myers I saw the kid wearing a white speedo with 2 inch sides. He just played volley ball and sat on the beach with his family and friends having a great time. BTW, they were Americans!!!!

Frank, thanks for sharing your story. I think my girlfriend could fill that role that your sister did. She can be more aggressive than I. I also think I would have serious issue with someone trying to take a picture. I understand it's a public space, but how would a young lady in a bikini feel about me trying to take pictures of her?

I do think that your advice to stare back at people staring is sound.   You make a great point,  either they want to be stared back at our they don't.   I don't see much room for a middle ground there.  lol
I know I shouldn't care, and be my own person, but part of me doesn't want to "offend" people. (Even if they are narrow minded southerners) I do understand that it is a complete double standard that women can wear bikinis and it's considered "weird" for a man to wear swim briefs. It's still new to me, so I'm trying to get over those inhibitions and concerns.
Your story of going back to the car reminded me of my last trip to ft. Lauderdale. Every day I would walk the 4 or 5 blocks back to the hotel from the beach in my suit only ad I heard one lady say. "Oo, that boy bold". Looking back, I think that was close to the ultimate compliment. It does take someone bold to do what few others do.

I usually do a week at St. Petes Beach Florida in September. Always wear a Speedo lying in the sun and walking the beach. No problems at all ... no bad stares (that I know of) ... and no haters.
