Speedos back in good graces?

Post by Swimmate » Fri Aug 29, 2014 9:43 am

Hi Guys,
I have started to swim again on a regular basis in the local pool here in antwerp. The first couple of times i went there I always had a pair of my favourite speedos with me and a piece of speedo runners just in case I wouldnt feel comfortable enough to wear the speedos. I had some doubts at the begining but now I always wear one of my fav speedos to swim.

Anyway, I've been there more than couple of times already and to my surprise there is quite some guys there wearing proudly their speedos while doing their swim routines. And not only in BACK! :)
I was under an impression, especially in the last couple of years, that guys tend not to wear speedos anymore because they are considered to reveal too much. I do not fully understand the process on how guys switched from speedos which used to be very popular in the 80's and 90's into something that seems to be covering more and more of their bodies.
Do you guys think this is purely related to whats currently in the fashion? or is it something more, maybe a reflection on how the general perception of masculinity evolved since then?

I'm not sure if thats just an image I have in my head or is it something that you guys feel as well?

Looking forward to hearing your opinions!

TBH I think for lap swimming their popularity has grown... the same for Jammers and square cuts.. thats basically all i see the guys wearing.

But doing Swimming for exercise is different to being on a beach etc, this is where guys wear shorts... as out of water you feel more exposed, so for a shy guy its harder to just wear a small suit.

So basically if you want to see other speedo wearers, go to a pool where there are fit guys doing laps lol.

Its where i know i'll be!
